The first most common would be dehydration. I just have found on one or two sites that this can be a symptom of alcoholic liver disease, but not many sites list this as a symptom. Is there any really good forums for people with liver disease apart from this message board? I used to post at wrong diagnosis .com, but It really depressed me, because most of the people there were loved ones taking care of VERY sick end stage liver disease people. I am sorry if you are not finding what you need here. I am suppose to lose 25 pounds before I meet the transplant surgeons, but over the holidays with this broken rib, I gained somewhere between 5 and 8 pounds. It always fluctuates. I can gain 10 pounds of water over night and some days you can cause a dimple (edema)on my shin and some days not. I came here after my wife died from alcoholic cirrhosis. Some of her first symptoms were nausea, severe abdominal pain and flu like symptoms. We actually thought that she had the flu until we realized the pain wasn't going away. She lost a lot of weight very rapidly. About 35 pounds in three months. Here initial symptoms subsided and her weight returned to normal. She even remained at her ideal weight for a long time. Most groups you find will focus on either liver problems or cirrhosis. Not too many focus solely on alcoholic cirrhosis that I've seen. There are many reasons and causes for cirrhosis and they all have common denominators. Hang in there. This group is full of wonderful people and all are willing to help. I don't even know if I have cirrhosis yet, but I'm just very worried and anxious about it because of how I've been feeling lately and some symptoms I've been experiencing. I've lost weight for the past 2 months without trying, lost my appetite and felt nausea for about a week, have occasional stabbing pain at my RUQ but not really that often. This all came on after a week in which I had 2 big drinking sessions. I'm not a classical alcoholic either...I just binge drink occasionally but I don't drink everyday but I guess that doesn't really matter. I've given up alcohol completely now because since this scare I've realized I was wasting my time with drinking when I have my family that I have to look after. Part of my worry and anxiety is that I've just bought a house and have a big mortgage with rising interest rates, cost of living etc, have a 18 month old girl, another baby girl due in March and my wife doesn't work so if I get sick everyone suffers. I'm only 34 and not ready for this and I know that sounds ridiculous because you're never ready for it, but I want to have my girls grown up and able to look after themselves and my wife to have some financial security. If the damage to the liver hasn't progressed to fibrosis or past that point, it can heal. If you have only inflammation of the liver (alcoholic hepatitis) then it's most likely completely reversible. If it's progressed to fibrosis and you stop the damage (quitting drinking) and the fibrosis is halted, then the liver can heal. Maybe to the point that even some of the fibrosis is reversed. If you don't have cirrhosis, which is the stage after fibrosis and unreversibile, then you stand a very good chance to live a normal life. It is important that you never drink again though. Alcohol is poison to you. Some people can tolerate alcohol well. That's why you see some people drink like a fish and never have health problems. While others, like my wife, who have bodies that can't tolerate it very well and develop cirrhosis early. I also found it very therapeutic to research and help people here. Before I found this group I never realized how much cirrhosis effected everyone. So I am really glad I found this group. Will be praying your disease is very early and that you are able to arrest it so you can have a long life. I wish I had the answer for the stress, it seems to be one of the biggest factors in how healthy our lives are. I know there are things I can't change, but I can change my attitude. I might think that caretaking my bedridden 74yr old mother who has end stage liver disease and is in the last 6 months of life is a real bummer, but when I make positive statements about what I'm grateful for it helps. Maybe there is something to the power of positive thinking. It might not take away my circumstances, but it helps me make it through another day without losing it or allowing the stress to build to where it takes days off my life.
