Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the group. I'm very sorry to learn about your diagnosis. It can be a roller coaster ride and can be quite overwhelming at times. This group has been wonderful for me, as I am the cargiver for my husband. That being said, you don't give much information, so it's difficult to know where you're at in the disease process. Have you had any type complications of the disease yet? If so, what types? What types medication are you taking? These things all affect your diet. The best thing for you is to contact your doctor and ask for a referral to an nutritionist. Most people here, including my husband, had been told to adhere to diets low in sodium, less than the equivelant of 1 tsp. daily, and a low protein diet. However, this is not true of everyone. Don't play guessing games with your health. Ask your doctor and talk to a dietician or a nutritionist. Every person's needs are different and the disease affects all persons differently. God bless you as you make this journey. My prayers are with you. Hugs.... Guest guest
Hi knmrobinson, Welcome to the group. Sometimes diet can depend on what is damaging the liver. There are many things that can damage the liver. A MELD score of 7 is very low. Do you have any clinical signs of cirrhosis? Symptoms? Itching? Jaundice? Abdominal Pain? Back Pain? Normally, those with a Fatty Liver benefit most from a change in diet. But, if you are over weight and have liver disease then a change in diet will help as well. The liver produces cholesterol and stores fat. So if you are over weight it will only benefit your liver if you lose some weight. This will get rid of the extra fat being stored in the liver and free up the hepatocytes to do their job! I think you mentioned in another post that your liver disease is caused by Hep C. This is the most common cause of liver disease in the US. I understand that the treatment may cause discomfort but it's worth it. If the disease is left to progress it will only become harder to treat down the road. With perhaps the inability to clear the virus and you may end up needing a new liver or transplant. Which, by the way is very difficult and the odds are against you. So, in my opinion, dealing with discomfort now while your MELD is very, very low and trying to clear the virus and living a normal life is more important than putting it off until it's too late when you may or may not need a transplant. Or if the disease becomes fatal. I will try to find some health diets though. Every now and then folks in the group post recipes. It's been a while since we have. The best diet, In my opinion, for the liver is a low cholesterol diet. High in leafy green vegetables. Guest guest
Hi , The new treatment you will be starting is a daily injection of a type of interferon for people who don't respond to the pegasys. I have read about people whose Hepatitis C became undetectable using Infergen by Aspire in two weeks time.
