I have had a number of esophogeal scopes. The first one I was awake for,

they just numbed my throat. I have a terrible gag reflex and it didn't go

very well. Subsequent ones have been done at the same time as an endoscopy,

and I have told them to knock me out for them. The relaxants they give do

not work on me. I would recommend that anybody get knocked out for either

one. The worst part as far as I am concerned is having to take the stuff to

get the digestive system cleaned out before the tests. But if they are just

doing the esophogus, you might not need that. If you do, they have a pill

now so you don't have to drink a lot of bad tasting stuff. Asked if you can

have the pill. I know I will ask next time. Jan H
