Guest guest
I wouldnt'; in my experience, anytime you use an " off " oil in soap, you get either " off " smelling soap or one that goes bad real quick, usually both. Are you sure it is 'off'? I dont' know what EPO smells like but I know there are some oils that just smell odd in the first place if you are not used to it. If you know what EPO is supposed to smell like and this isn't it, it's not worth the wasting of a batch of soap for. If it were me and the oil was already rancid, I would dump it. Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
Thanks Pat and Ilene. I suppose I was hoping against hope. Damn stuff is costly. It's not terribly rancid, but it's definitely well on its way. :-) Regards, Kathy > If it were me and the oil was already rancid, I would dump it. >
Guest guest
Kathy, Evening Primrose Oil is very high in linoleic and linolenic acids These are polyunsaturated fatty acids and are subject to oxidation and rancidity. If your material has developed a malodor then it is probably oxidizing and is no good. You cannot fix the oil once it has oxidized. Young KY Labs Innovators of Fine Personal Care Products www.kylabs.com Soapmaking Question Hello Everyone, I have a 16 ounce bottle of Evening Primrose oil that I've forgotten about, and needless to say, it has developed an " off " odor. If I incorporate it within a soap recipe, will the saponification process prevent the EP oil from causing an early death for the entire batch, or will early oxidation create the DOS? Thanks for any info.
