Guest guest
HERE IS A BLIP I FOUND ON A SITE AND PASTED HERE.. Other nail conditions can indicate disease. For example, yellow or green discoloration in your nails may result from a respiratory condition, such as chronic bronchitis, or from swelling of your hands (lymphedema). Indentations that run across your nails, called Beau's lines, appear when growth at the area under your cuticle is interrupted. This might occur because of an injury or severe illness, such as a heart attack SO FAR I HAVENT SEEN ANYTHING ABOUT LIVER DISEASE INDICATED, BUT DID A VERY SHORT SEARCH AS I HAVE TO GO OUT NOW.. IF YOU LOOK AT HER NAILS YOU CANT MISS IT.. DEBRA > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi, Elsy. I am so sorry about your aunt. Guest guest
Hello Elsy, I have HepC and Cirrhosis. My doc says its stage 3. My HepC was diagnosed in 96. Within the year I was declared early cirrhosis. I'm pretty much compensated cirrhosis now. I've done 2 rounds of the Chemo combination that's a standard treatment for HCV without clearing the virus for more than a few weeks. I'm now being referred to a local Hepatologist treatment center for consideration for current trials for other treatments. Your aunt needs to be seeing at least a gastroenterologist with HCV and liver care experience or focus. If she is, or is seeing a Hepatologist, that is the best source of information on her condition. Is your aunt depending on you for care? What is your situation in her care? If she is, and you are her primary care giver you may be able to attend doctor appointments with her to help ask relevant questions and keep track of the information given. In my experience that's where things most often break down. Sally Re: Hello My aunt had Hep C, by the time she found out she had hep C it was too late to give her any treatment for it. The doctor's said it was too late for any treatment and that it had converted to Cirrhosis. She had her first appt at USC. They did some blood work and she also has her next appt in Nov. I have no idea what to expect on that day. How long ago where you diagnosed with Cirrhosis? What symptoms are you having? > > Hi, Elsy. I am so sorry about your aunt. Do you know the cause of her cirrhosis? I am Bobby a 43 year old man with the same thing. Mine is from alcohol abuse. I am a recovering alcoholic. I hope the doctors can get your aunt on the transplant list as soon as possible. Good luck, and you came to the right place if nothing more than to learn more about this disease, not to mention all the really wonderful friends you will find here. > Hello > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My name is Elsy and my aunt was diagnosed a little over a year ago with > > Cirrhosis. Guest guest
<< Bright red palms with white spots.>> There's another thing I have. I was told it was " poor circulation. " Does this show up with other ailments? The decline in our standard of living may not be a sign of economic failure; rather, it may be part of the cure for our economic ills. -- Hawken in The Next Economy Re: Hello Well. I had a lot of symptoms at first that i completely ignored. I will get to them, but first I started to have right upper quad pain last June 17th. I had played drums in a country band down at a LO DO sports bar for an after the Rockies base ball game performance and I tied one on pretty good, and the next morning, I start having pain. The pain felt as if I had run too fast, and got a cramp, or like a brick had been stuffed up in there. The doctor sent me for an ultrasound, and it was excrusciating for the tech to roll the wand around on that area. Then by September, I started to have left upper quad pain, and this was even worse, and covers a bigger area. Then I was admitted to the hospital with severe chest pain. No fun. treadmill test. oooh. I had a slight jaundice appearance in the cunjunctiva of my eyes, but not the whites. I had elevated ast and alt and GGT, as well as elevated bilirubin, and ammonia, and low BUN and abnormal BUN/CREAT ratio. I brought the labs to my doctors attention, but she was convinced i had gallbladder disease. While taking out the gallbladder, the surgeon noted " macronodular cirrhosis " and took a biopsy. If any folks out there are having a biopsy,PLEASE ask, no DEMAND a needle biopsy. A wedge biopsy has a lot of fibrosis in it as a rule. The small signs I ignored were bleeding issues. I had been having hard to control nose bleeds, as well as severely bleeding hemorrhoids for two years. Rumply fingernails, as well as a ghostly white appearance. Bright red palms with white spots. I have also had mental confusion, visual disturbances, nausea (ooooh) weakness, shortness of breath, headaches, dizziness, and sleep disturbance, (day / night reversal). Guest guest
Mine are mostly thumb-nails. VERY deep crossways valleys. Other fingernails just aren't quite smooth. YFMV. Guest guest
I am constantly being reminded by my hepatologist to hang on to my own liver as long as I can. Getting a transplant is very risky, and they will do a transplant when all other avenues have failed.Welcome to the group. I hope everything works out and your husband can get a transplant either way. Take care. Bobby Hello Hello All-I'm new to the group. Here's my story. Three years ago, my husband was diagnosed with Hep C, he immediatley quit drinking. He wasn't an alcoholic, but a weekend warrior and he was quite overweight. He was told that he would most likely develop cirrhosis within 5-20 years. Well, this June, he was diagnosed with cirrhosis, only 2.5 yrs later. I believe that he already had the cirrhosis when they did the biopsy 2.5 years ago and the doctor had to go in three times because the pieces fragmented. Regardless, now he is on disability because at least 4 days a week he sleeps most of the day and has no energy. His blood levels are gradually getting worse. We have relatives who are willing to be tested to see if they can do a live transplant but we are told that he is not sick enough yet. I understand that there has to be limits, but I don't understand why they wouldn't want to do major surgery when someone is still healthy enough to recover quickly. All my husband wanted to do is be able to retire from the job where he has already worked for 35 years. Boy can life throw things at you. <!-- #ygrp-mkp{ border:1px solid #d8d8d8;font-family:Arial;margin:14px 0px;padding:0px 14px;} #ygrp-mkp hr{ border:1px solid #d8d8d8;} #ygrp-mkp #hd{ color:#628c2a;font-size:85%;font-weight:bold;line-height:122%;margin:10px 0px;} #ygrp-mkp #ads{ margin-bottom:10px;} #ygrp-mkp .ad{ padding:0 0;} #ygrp-mkp .ad a{ color:#0000ff;text-decoration:none;} --> <!-- #ygrp-sponsor #ygrp-lc{ font-family:Arial;} #ygrp-sponsor #ygrp-lc #hd{ margin:10px 0px;font-weight:bold;font-size:78%;line-height:122%;} #ygrp-sponsor #ygrp-lc .ad{ margin-bottom:10px;padding:0 0;} --> <!-- #ygrp-mlmsg {font-size:13px;font-family:arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif;} #ygrp-mlmsg table {font-size:inherit;font:100%;} #ygrp-mlmsg select, input, textarea {font:99% arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif;} #ygrp-mlmsg pre, code {font:115% monospace;} #ygrp-mlmsg * {line-height:1.22em;} #ygrp-text{ font-family:Georgia; } #ygrp-text p{ margin:0 0 1em 0;} #ygrp-tpmsgs{ font-family:Arial; clear:both;} #ygrp-vitnav{ padding-top:10px;font-family:Verdana;font-size:77%;margin:0;} #ygrp-vitnav a{ padding:0 1px;} #ygrp-actbar{ clear:both;margin:25px 0;white-space:nowrap;color:#666;text-align:right;} #ygrp-actbar .left{ float:left;white-space:nowrap;} ..bld{font-weight:bold;} #ygrp-grft{ font-family:Verdana;font-size:77%;padding:15px 0;} #ygrp-ft{ font-family:verdana;font-size:77%;border-top:1px solid #666; padding:5px 0; } #ygrp-mlmsg #logo{ padding-bottom:10px;} #ygrp-vital{ background-color:#e0ecee;margin-bottom:20px;padding:2px 0 8px 8px;} #ygrp-vital #vithd{ font-size:77%;font-family:Verdana;font-weight:bold;color:#333;text-transform:upp\ ercase;} #ygrp-vital ul{ padding:0;margin:2px 0;} #ygrp-vital ul li{ list-style-type:none;clear:both;border:1px solid #e0ecee; } #ygrp-vital ul li .ct{ font-weight:bold;color:#ff7900;float:right;width:2em;text-align:right;padding-ri\ ght:.5em;} #ygrp-vital ul li .cat{ font-weight:bold;} #ygrp-vital a{ text-decoration:none;} #ygrp-vital a:hover{ text-decoration:underline;} #ygrp-sponsor #hd{ color:#999;font-size:77%;} #ygrp-sponsor #ov{ padding:6px 13px;background-color:#e0ecee;margin-bottom:20px;} #ygrp-sponsor #ov ul{ padding:0 0 0 8px;margin:0;} #ygrp-sponsor #ov li{ list-style-type:square;padding:6px 0;font-size:77%;} #ygrp-sponsor #ov li a{ text-decoration:none;font-size:130%;} #ygrp-sponsor #nc{ background-color:#eee;margin-bottom:20px;padding:0 8px;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad{ padding:8px 0;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad #hd1{ font-family:Arial;font-weight:bold;color:#628c2a;font-size:100%;line-height:122%\ ;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad a{ text-decoration:none;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad a:hover{ text-decoration:underline;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad p{ margin:0;} o{font-size:0;} ..MsoNormal{ margin:0 0 0 0;} #ygrp-text tt{ font-size:120%;} blockquote{margin:0 0 0 4px;} ..replbq{margin:4;} --> ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Guest guest
Sorry to hear about your husband. To answer your question, the reason they don't give liver transplants until it's absolutely necessary is because there aren't enough livers to go around. There are far more people who need livers than there are donors. Colleen cushte2000 wrote: Hello All-I'm new to the group. Here's my story.
