Yes, Bobbi. I think it is a sign, but you need to press the doctor for a direct

answer to that question. When my loved one was this far along, she was very ill.

Sometimes they will not want to upset you, and you will get sugar coated

information. If you want to know the truth, you need to get that. Sleep

disturbance is a hallmark sign of porto systemic encephalopathy. I have it all

the time. Are the doctors aware of it? Are they giving him lactulose yet? The

doctors should know that he is having sleep disturbances because sometimes if

encephalopathy is treated aggressively and early, it can be improved with

medication. Not allways but sometimes. I am speaking only about my own

experience, and in no way am I giving you medical advice other than to advise

you to ask the doctor.

My Daddy

It's a good day. We found out today that he was approved for SSI

Disability. So now he has Medicaid, and can see a doctor. He had paracentesis

yesterday at the hospital, and they got 9 liters. He can breathe and sleep

again. How many liters can be drained from his abdomen safely? He has a standing

appointment every 2 weeks. He swells back usually within 3 days of the

procedure. Is this an indicator of how advanced his disease is? The last

paracentesis they drained 12 liters....

I was wondering why sleep patterns are all screwy? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Bobbi

Well, now we can finally see a dr. when he gets his insurance (Medicaid)

coverage. He was referred to a specialist by his regular M.D. (whom he he's not

seen in months; the dr. said there is no need to come back, he really can't do

anything else since he's a regular dr.). The specialist refused to see him

because he did not have $175 to pay him the day of the appt. So, his regular

M.D. prescribed lactulose, lasix, and aldactone. He has a prescription for

hydracodone for pain. I am trying to understand why he needs the diueretics.

They are not doing any good....

I agree with the sugar coating thing, I know my Daddy is VERY sick, I would

love a straght answer. Maybe now at a specialst we can get it.

Thanks Bob, you are doing a great thing here....

Please be aware that your dad doesnt have to further damage his sick liver with

hydrocodone if it is called vicodin. If you get a sympathetic doctor with some

chutzpah, they can prescribe something without the tylenlol. Make sure to ask.

As I told Dave earlier to day, the ONLY reason the tylenol is in the drug is to

purposely make it poison because there is no maximum dose of a pure opiate. One

person might have relief at 5 mg and another might require 100 mg. Ardis was in

horrible pain in the hospice, and thank God they don't give one damn about the

DEA in there, and it took 35 mg of pure liquid morphine to get her comfortable

when we had her transfered. There are very few ER s in the country that would

give a person a dose that high. In fact I think it's impossible.
