Guest guest
His doc said that he could not even be considered for a transpant until March (6 months since he quit drinking). The gastroenterologist refused to see him since he had no insurance. He has not seen a dr. in a while. abijann <no_reply > wrote: http://www.transplantliving.org/ http://www.surgery.usc.edu/divisions/hep/patientguide/index.html These are two wonderful sites that will give you more information on living donations and the transplant process itself. He should be either with a Gastroenterologist or Hepatologist now. He should have an ultrasound, Ct scan, and possibly a liver biopsy to be sure how far advanced this cirrhosis is. If he has encephalopathy (mental confusion), has ascites(fluid building up in the abdomen)...it is important then to be sure to have the evaluation for transplantation started. Some wait too long to try to be placed on the list and then they are extremely tired and have to go through all the testing and seeing all the doctors when they are at their worst. Apparently, the doctors he is with doesn't feel he is that far advanced in the disease, or they probably would not say to wait. They have to test living donors also and this also takes time to do.
