In a report on surgery to reconstruct the mandible after ablation of an

adenoma I have several occasions where blood vessels are said to be

" placée sur lac " . Can anyone help with this phrase? I have not come

across it before. There are few hits on Google but I cannot determine

the meaning from them.

The words occur in the following sentences:

" Repérage de l'axe carotide primitif. Mise en place sur lac et on

constate qu'il existe un début de carotide externe tout à fait

fonctionnel..... "

" Il existe une toute petite artère thyroïdienne supérieure qui elle

aussi sera placée sur lac. "

" ....on retrouvera à la partie tout à fait antérieure une veine

jugulaire antérieure qui, elle aussi, sera placée sur lac et dont le

calibre est tout à fait satisfaisant. "

Many thanks,

Hutchings

Hello ,

Was intrigued by this lac mystery. As far as I can see it has indeed to do with

encircling the vessel with a surgical tape in order to retract it and protect

it.

Hope it helps.

PS: Just found out that googling the masculine form " mis sur lac " for ex. gives

much more results with a bit more explanation

Re: TERM FR>EN placée sur lac

Hello ,

Have a look at " encircled with umbilical tape " . Umbilical (surgical)

tape is passed around the structure to enable it to be manipulated

easily without damaging it.

cheers

Hi , I think the original French term is " lacs " , though I'm not sure. But

that's what I've seen more often.

Best wishes,

Debbie

Re: Re: TERM FR>EN placée sur lac

Thanks Sue. That fits perfectly. Now having got your answer and put

" lac " into Google again with " umbilical tape " I have come up with an

answer you gave to someone else in 2005 on ProZ!

Is " Lac " a French brand of surgical tape or thread? Just curious.

Many thanks
