what do you use for shampoo/conditioner?

also, what kind of water do you have? do you also have oily skin? and do

you ever have dandruff?

and, ok, while i'm asking these personal questions, is your name really

brandon berg? cause that's kinda funny in a nifty kind of way.

I stopped using regular shampoo when I began to suspect that it was causing

hair loss. Nowadays, I just use an egg. It doesn't seem to have made the

problem any better or worse.

Uh...wet? I don't know. It's city water.

Somewhat, but it doesn't bother me much, because I can just wipe my face

once or twice a day.

Sporadically, I think.

Yes. My parents swear that it was entirely unintentional, and considering

their musical tastes, I have no trouble believing it. I wrote the

Yohannesboch Concerto, by the way.

Good point. I've been meaning to bring that up on the list for some

time now, and doubtless many others have just been too timid to admit

their feelings. Out with it " " , what is your birth name?

You could shave your head. I haven't had oily hair ever since I did

that a few years ago. (I didn't have oily hair before that either

though.) It also saves money on shampoo/conditioner.

My Jude's Herbal Home Remedies says:

Oily Hair- Use this as a final rinse for oily hair. Put 1/2 C. rosemary in 1

1/2 C. water. Bring to a full boil, then simmer 15 mins. Let sit 24

hrs.,covered. Strain, bottle and use daily for 1 wk. After that use once a

week.

hee! that was cute. :)

ok. i'm an herbal practioner, so this will be all herby advice, other

people may have other suggestions too, so just try the stuff that appeals

to you...

rosemary is great for your hair and will cut down on the oiliness. there's

a few ways to do it, but the easiest is to take a handful of (do i have to

say, organic?) rosemary, ad it to about 20oz (ie, enough to cover the

leaves) and bring to a boil. simmer for 15 more minutes...strain out the

leaves and use the water on the roots of your hair, all over your scalp. if

you can leave this on overnight, that'd be great. whatever's left of the

rosemary-water can be used as a rinse for after you wash.

it sounds crazy, but some jojoba oil should also help - because it has an

inhibitive effect on the sebaceous glands (which secrete the oil). that's

pretty expensive though, so try the rosemary first.

nettles are also fabulous for treating almost all hair problems. they make

an astringent, which helps with the oil balancing, but they're also really

high in minerals. drink lots of nettle tea if you like it (it has a fairly

" green " flavor, but i like it), or eat fresh nettles boiled with butter, or

make a tonic for your hair by boiling an entire young plant (obviously this

will have to be next spring), including the roots, with water and cider

vinegar in a 2:1 ratio. you could also get nettle root tincture, either

this or the former tonic should be used daily as a shampoo or a scalp rub

until you get things under control.

by the way, burdock helps with hair loss - a good way to use it is: finely

chop 4oz burdock root, 2oz nettle root macerated (left to soak) in 1 quart

of rum of 8-10 days. strain out the root bits and rub your scalp daily with

the tonic.

one more, cause variety is the spice of life, they say: nasturtium should

work too. take a large handful of the flowers, leaves, and stems and simmer

for 15 minutes. strain, and use the juice as a rinse after washing.

hee!

if any of these sound enticing but you need help, holler :)

one other thing - you might consider a chlorine filter for your shower -

that's definitely contributing to hair loss! www.healthyhome.com or

www.gaiam.com can help you out.

Dear ,

Greasy/oily hair can be corrected by brushing vigorously with a brush

covered with muslin so the bristles penetrate it. The grease will

collect on the muslin that can then be disposed of. Follow with a

lemon juice rinse or use a tsp of citric acid crystals dissolved in a

jug of warm water and rinse off in almost cold water.

Oil Controlling Rinse - Put the astringent qualities of lemon tea to

work on your scalp. Steep two or three lemon tea bags in one cup of

hot water. Pour rinse over hair after shampooing, and then rinse

with water. To make a quart, use five tea bags.

OR rinse with apple cider vinegar after shampooing, but do not rinse

out the vinegar - the smell quickly dissipates.

However I've heard that oily hair is mainly caused by a lack of

Zinc. For hair that is oily and smells, take 50 mg Zinc daily. It

will take only a few days to make a difference but continue taking

zinc as your body obviously needs it.

I hope that helps.
