Guest guest
Will he consider a transplant? Colleen sexylovelymum wrote: Hi my name is Tracey and I am a mum to 8 kids. My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 liver chirrohsis 18 months ago. He also has kidney failure, anaemia and until just recently hep c which he looks to have cleared. He is currently having ascites taps every 2 weeks, and is having an endoscopy tomorrow as the specialist thinks his liver or upper gut may be bleeding as his blood count is so low. How long do you think he has left with us, he dont want to know and he doesnt want me to ask the doctors? And what should I expect in the coming months? Guest guest
Tracey, What is the cause of his cirrhosis? Hep C? He probably should have been considered for a transplant long before the ascites developed. The fact that the liver failure is causing kidney failure is a very poor sign. Is he currently receiving dialysis for the kidney failure? The development of ascites is also a poor sign and shows that the liver is failing. Has he developed encephalopathy? (confusion etc) My heart goes out to you and I hope and pray for the best for you and your family. No he is not yet on dialysis and he still has all his senses for now. To: livercirrhosissupport@...: mac0184@...: Sat, 19 Jan 2008 15:59:10 -0800Subject: RE: What's next? Guest guest
I would ask that they start dialysis immediately or control the medication for the ascites to help protect the kidney further. Is you husband in a hospital or at home? MaC Tracey O'Brien wrote: Yes the cirrohsis was caused by the Hep c, then alcohol didnt help. Guest guest
They are probably looking to see if he has any varices. If they are worried about bleeding then you may have to check his stools every now and then to make sure they are not black or tarry. This is a sign of internal bleeding which is immediately life threatening. MaC Tracey O'Brien wrote: He's at home, but goes to the hospital every 2 weeks to have his ascites tap.
