Guest guest
Hello everyone, To refresh your memory, my 49 year old brother was diagnosed with alcoholic cirrhosis in February of this year. He also suffers from permanent damage from West Nile virus contracted in September, 2006. I saw him 2 weeks after he was released from the hospital in March. He looked like a " skeleton with skin " . He was very, very thin. He was put on a low sodium diet and Lasix to keep the ascites down. I saw him again a few weeks ago. He looks better, but I think it's because he's not following his diet. He's eating things like Bratwurst, pickles, olives and potato chips. Ice cream too. He craves salt and sugar because the West Nile virus damaged the nerves going to his brain from his tongue and he can barely taste anything. So I think he looks better because the fluid is back in his tissues. His belly is a little bigger, but not much. I don't think he's drinking anymore, but I can't tell for sure. He still has terrible memory problems and some confusion. He's lost all the hair on his legs and arms, but the hair on his head appears to be growing back. My sister in law says he's still impotent. He's going to an Internist rather than a gastro doc because he doesn't have insurance. He's still in denial and continues to insist he's not sick anymore. My sister in law is pressuring him to go back to work. Take care, everyone, and thanks for all your support and education. I read every post.
