Guest guest
Yeah. It sucks big time. I don't know what to think. My pain doc doesnt think I have a broken rib. My PC does. The ER doc says she can only offer me ibuprofen. I suppose budwieser wouldnt hurt in small amounts either, but both would be equally stupid. This is a DOCTOR. I am baffled. I dont think I want transplant after all. I will have to deal with doctors. I am going beyond frustration with them, and it's brewing into something far more sinister. This woman doctor today was so rude and mean. I had Sharon on the phone, and she wouldnt talk to me with Sharon on the speaker phone. But when Sharon called her on her own line , she took a different tone altogether. This was the worst ER visit I've ever had. Ill NEV ER go back. I swear Ill go to the liquor store before I ever step foot into the ER again. Guest guest
Here is a link to your patient rights for the VA in Ohio. http://www.visn10.va.gov/patient_rights.asp It seems though that you are already familiar with the VA info. What I would do is complain and insist that they treat your medical condition which is your right and they are legally obligated to do so. I would also contact your patient advocate. They can assist you toward better care. Explain to them how you feel and what has been happening. To not treat a potentially fatal condition is unacceptable. Here's the info. Patient Advocate Office Room C1034 (Outpatient Clinic Area) Kim Rouser, " Outpatient " Patient Advocate Kim , " Inpatient " Patient Advocate Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Or at the very least make another appointment and go from there. Bother the crap out of them. Remember the " Squeaky wheel gets the oil. " MaC --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Disregard my last post about the taping. It seems they don't do this anymore. " Doctors rarely use compression wraps — elastic bandages that you can wrap around your chest — anymore to help " splint " and immobilize the area. Doctors typically don't recommend compression wraps for broken ribs because compression wraps can keep you from taking deep breaths, which can increase the risk of lung infections (pneumonia). Broken ribs usually heal completely in about one to two months. " Self-care measures, including rest and the use of ice for pain and swelling, are the best treatments for a broken rib. Normal pain treatment is Tylenol or NSAIDs unless its severe then they can inject the location and do a nerve block. So, besides the bedside manner, what they did in the ER was the correct treatment. All this you probably already know. MaC Bob Aragon wrote: Yeah. It sucks big time. I don't know what to think. My pain doc doesnt think I have a broken rib. My PC does. Guest guest
Don't worry. I'm just venting. Sharon and I are both sickened and disheartened by this. They did an exam, and then after asking what I could take, gave me a dose of oxycodone. Then came back, said they saw no break on the xray, talked to my pcp, and the two of them put their heads together and they wrote me a prescription for Celebrex. Look that one up. Totally contraindicated. I called hepatology, they said I may not take Celebrex. Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile Re: Re: PAIN !!!! Disregard my last post about the taping. Guest guest
The more complete story is here on my blog http://billybobswildride.blogspot.com/ I have to forwarn you, its pretty negative. I have been in a pretty negative mood. The hepatologist is the one who told me that the only treatment for end stage liver disease with a painful spleen and liver is to treat the pain. I took his advice. I cleared it with him. I track every single pill. I keep a log, And I turn it ober to the pain doc every month. I asked for a reduction in dose last month to see if it would help combat the nausea. I don't know wht more I could do to gain the trust of the medical profession, but they treated me like I was a junkie looking for a fix. I have a broken rib. On xray. It hurts more than any surgery I have ever had. But the emotional pain is more than I can bear. Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile Re: Re: PAIN !!!! Bob, DON'T do that! Guest guest
The only thing they could do about a broken rib is tape up your rib cage and give you pain meds. Is there a pain management clinic in your area? Accupuncture can help with pain, too. Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble with the doctors. Colleen > Hey, Dave. That is not how things are here. I hear you, man. I am so frustrated these days. I have a broken rib and no one will do anything about it. I got a script for ibuprofen(a liver no no) and celebrex(an even bigger no no. So, I guess I just have to let heal with no additional meds. I'm all ears, man. I thought I had answered but if I didn't, I'm sorry. > Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile > ************************************************************* http://groups.Yahoo.com/group/Humorous_Heppers
Guest guest
All my doctors, including hep C doctors, told me to take Advil or Motrin or Aleve, and not Tylenol or aspirin. Ibuprofen is processed through the kidneys, not the liver, I was told, and that I should definitely stay away from Tylenol. Colleen robwalkingeagle@... wrote: Hey, Dave.
