Guest guest
Hi Pants, You are getting good advice. I too have cirrhosis caused mostly by alcohol hep. And now I find myself Pre-Transplant. Please follow your Dr's instructions and let us know what he says. This is a great group alcohol related or not but there are a bunch of us that are. You do want to do everything you can being so young and in such a place in your life with a wife and young daughter. Try and relax and just learn for a bit what you are dealing with currently. The stress won't help. How are you feeling now? One thing I should mention is that drinking never made me sick. I was a drinker that drank consistently for many years. I never thought I was drinking to much...it was the consistency that got me. It happens particularly to women. In the evening, on weekends and more on vacations of course. One thing that fooled me was I would get sick, flu like symptoms for a few days then feel better for awhile,,,repeat, repeat. Sounds like Mac's wife. Anyway, if you feel you need help with the drinking, I stopped with an alternative to AA tha worked for me and I would be happy to share those experiences with you if you feel you need some help in that regard. Guest guest
I'm having no problems giving up alcohol at all. In fact it's ridiculously easy because I don't have a dependency or addiction to alcohol. I just binged too much when I did drink. Nothing is certain at this stage about my situation. How consistently did you drink? Was it everyday and how much? > > > > > > Hey Pantsvonfryer, > > > > > > I'm MaC and have been part of this group for over a year. Guest guest
I drank 12 (12 ounce) cans of beer every day for 20 years. It was a staple food for me. I was never hungover, and my main problem is that I just didn't have any of the many negative things you hear about related to heavy alcohol consumption. So to me it was just a normal way of life. Guest guest
Good Morning, I am glad that it has been easy for you not to drink and that you aren't a habitual drinker. From what I have read and understand, although nothing that damages the liver over and over is good for it the 2 most common types of drinking are habitual drinking or consistant and binge drinkers, I.E. weekend warriors. Both are bad and hard on your liver. Women tend to be the first and Men the second. Although, I know this is not always true and in my opinion that may be how it starts at younger ages for people. Most people with a true dependency drink daily or almost daily. The most damaging is the daily drinking because you never give your liver a break. It isn't even necessarily the amount...It is the constant seige the liver is going through getting rid of the toxins. I drank from the time I was 16 until 48. Some off and on but mostly on. The amount of course varied at different times in my life. As a teen it was socially and continued as what I considered social all along. Doesn't everyone have a cocktail or too in the evening with their spouse or wine while cooking dinner and margarita's when out for Mexican food or in Mexico which we go to often. I was a prof chef....in resorts, restaurants and parties all the time. Ran a hotel, yacht club, bar in the caribbean for 5 years. who didn't drink? We travel to the tropics as well....who doesn't drink sailing or on the beach....??? My lifestyle lent itself to drinking whenever I wanted and deemed appropriate....There was always a reason to drink. So, that was my lifestyle...not the falling down, broke drunk you might typically think of who ends up with cirrhosis. But I certainly drank more than my share. Let's see what your Dr's say first about your liver enzymes, etc. Laying off the alcohol is always a good idea and in your case it may be real poison to your liver while other people can process it. It's a crap shoot. But the consequences if it ends up badly, well, I don't wish them on anyone. I need to run off to another Dr appt...talk to you all soon. > > > > > > > > Hey Pantsvonfryer, > > > > > > > > I'm MaC and have been part of this group for over a year.
