It can be a little worse than that ... there can be a gene that makes you say, more resistant to viruses by making your immune system work harder. BUT in the wrong environment that same gene will give you an auto-immune disease. The " wrong environment " doesn't even have to be " poor diet " -- just one you are not adapted to. That's why I really appreciate the " Paleo " or " historical " or " genetic " approach to research. Shoot, my ancestors lived on glaciers til their skin turned white ... what ELSE did they adapt to?
