Guest guest
U know a great way to build abs is via muscle control. Suck the abs in as hard as u can and hold the contraction for 10 seconds then repeat a few times as to work the muscle well without fatigue. _____ From: ChrisMasterjohn@... [mailto:ChrisMasterjohn@...] Sent: Tuesday, 13 January 2004 9:34 AM Subject: aerobics and fat loss Some folks have dismissed aerobic exercise as worthless for fat loss, but I beg to differ, based on my own experience: I've noticed that my six-pack gets more defined if I engage in aerobic exercise several times a week, and my love handles slim down, and this occurs within one to two weeks, whereas if I abstain from aerobics my six-pack loses some definition and love handles grow a little bit, also within one to two weeks. Granted, either way I have slim abs and no major depositions of body fat. In any case, aerobics clearly produce fat loss for *me*. This is, of course, in addition to my weight training regimen, and not displacing it. I've never focused on ab work, but ab exercises like hanging leg raises or situps certainly help build ab muscle-- I notice it within a week. Dr. Mike mentioned the possibilty of neck damage from situps. I've found that doing situps on one of those things where you are suspended upside down at an incline prevents an apparent neck damage, where as doing them on the floor bothers my neck. Also I wouldn't put my hands behind my neck. If some people exercise and do not lose fat, it seems that the likely culprit is a deficiency of beta-2 receptors and/or an excess of alpha-2 receptors on their fat cells. Adrenal hormones will bind to either, but will stimulate cAMP when bound to the former and inhibit cAMP in the latter. cAMP stimulates lipolysis. (It's inhibited by insulin, which is one reason insulin inhibits fat loss). This could possibly be due to an ancestry that requires higher body fat (colder climates), or could be an adaptive response to chronically elevated cortisol levels, or levels of other adrenal hormones. The one other possibility for these people might be that they are listening to doctor's orders and EATING before they exercise. Eating before exercise is silly, and eating carbs before exercise is outright sabotage of all your efforts. Chris
