Guest guest
Hello everyone, My name is , and I was diagnosed with Still’s disease one month ago. I live in Waco Texas, and I own a Landscape business. This makes it especially hard to keep working but luckily I’ve had good people working for me lately. I’ve been lurking the last week and I am impressed with everyone’s compassion towards each other. My intentions though are to find out similarities that we all have that may lead to figuring out what brings on this disease. Before I get ahead of myself though let me tell my history with this illness. Four years ago I came down with horrible migratory joint pain that started in my legs and spread to every major joint in my body. My doctor tested me for everything but the only thing that stood out was the Sed Rate. We thought Lyme but tested negative. Even still I asked to be treated. He prescribed Tetracycline and I was cured in less than three weeks. A month later I started getting some pains back and asked for more Tetracycline, and I wa! s better in 3 days. I was completely cured of whatever got me until October of 2000. I had the exact same symptoms this time except for the rash that bothered the doctors more than me. It was the pain I was concerned with and I wanted some Tetracycline. The doctor told me he wouldn’t prescribe it unless I tested positive for Lyme. Instead he told me it was my nerves and gave me Attarax. I continued to get worse and worse, and went from doctor to doctor with no diagnosis. Finally after it went into my hands I begged a doctor who is a neighbor of mine to give me Tetracycline. I again got better in less than three weeks. But this time I had permanent pain in my wrists. I should have gotten more Tetracycline, but instead another doctor believed I might have Rheumatic Fever, and put me on Amoxicillin. I steadily got worse again. He had also given me Prednisone that worked instantly, but as soon as I got off it, the pain and rashes came back. I finally was able to get s! ome more Tetracycline and began taking for three weeks with no improvement. Actually I was getting worse. Which I read is normal before you get better, on this kind of treatment. Then I was diagnosed, with Still’s and taken off it once again. I’ve since been on Prednisone and MTX that is helping, but I know I’m not being cured like I was before. I’m just waiting till I see my Rhuematologist in two weeks. Then I will ask him if I can get on Tetracycline. I read though that Tetracycline will decrease the affects of MTX. I have heard some promise of a similar drug called Minocycline. I have read some amazing stories of people with Rheumatoid arthritis who believe they have been completely cured using these drugs. But others who have said that this only works for people who have recently contracted the disease. Has anyone else experienced or heard about this possibility. I am very interested in researching this possible cure. I believe if we all were to try something like this in a mass experiment, and track if we get better or not we could put this controversy of its effectiveness to rest.
