In the old books they collect the 'night pots' for household use. Urine is generally *sterile* (as in zero germs) too. -- Heidi * OK, I know is going to tell me that NH3 is not a bleach. But, it seems that you can whiten leather with old urine, or at least I heard an off-reference to that.
Guest guest
Heidi- >Urine is generally *sterile* (as in zero germs) too. Isn't urine only sterile for a very brief time after coming out of the body (and then only providing you don't have a UTI)? My understanding is that it's great microbe food and quickly becomes life soup. -

My understanding is that >it's great microbe food and quickly becomes life soup. > >- That sounds reasonable (I haven't heard anything about that part). Esp. given that it turns into ammonia, which would indicate some bacterial activity? Or just the oxygenation of urea? Ammonia wouldn't be a good thing to drink either. I'm not sure what the cow urine ferments into ... the article said it gets thick and syrupy. Maybe it creates some kind of sugars. As for UTI's -- I'd think whatever germ is involved there is a common one, not one that is likely to hurt you drinking your own, and even with a UTI the bacterial count is pretty low. -- Heidi
Guest guest
cow urine is also used by tribal people in East Africa to bleach their hair.
