And the legalities involved if a protection trained dog should bite someone who is hurting " Da Boss " ? Judith Alta

They have " jogging dogs " for jogging women to rent ... if the woman is attacked, the dog attacks the attacker. They are trained to use " force for force " -- that is, they basically immobilize the guy but will bite if he tries to get up. They only growl if they guy ACTS mean. If the dog is on a leash, it's pretty hard to make the case against the dog if it bit a guy -- why was he within leash range anyway? According to the folks that rent them though, guys who attack women don't want to deal with a big dog though. Plus they make nice company. Legalities -- if a dog bites a kid, that is big trouble. Most of the problems with dogs have been attack dogs that are of dangerous breeds AND poorly trained. An " attack dog " should not be allowed to run loose or left alone with a kid, and they should be VERY well trained. Keeping a big dog (in a kennel) on our property has done wonders though. The fact he barks loudly keeps people -- and animals -- from getting closer. Bad guys really don't seem to like dogs much, they make a nice deterrent. I take him with me when I'm out in the woods ... I'm not so much worried about bad guys as the odd strange wild animal (got chased by a raccoon once!). But many people who get them don't actually train them well, and they become problematic, then they end up being put to sleep, which is too sad. -- Heidi
Guest guest
Judith- Unfortunately, the dog situation is going to hell. Specifics vary radically by location, though. >To change the topic slightly. Do have any information on the effectiveness >of dogs as protection?
