Guest guest
Hello Owen, By definition " jaundice " IS yellow colouration of the skin, sclera, mucosae. I don't think you need to specify in English. From Dorland's: jaundice (jawn´dis) a condition characterized by excessive levels of bilirubin in the blood and deposition of bile pigments in the skin, mucous membranes, and whites of the eyes, so that the person appears yellow. Called also icterus. cheers Sue > > Hello all > > This is something fairly basic which I've not had to worry too much about > in the past but in the context I'm dealing with at the moment (hepatitis) I > think I need to be a bit more careful. > > " ictère cutanéo-muqueux " (Cathérine I'm delighted to see that cut and paste > has let me include accents, my version of Eudora doesn't allow me to key > them): should this be simply " jaundice of the skin and mucous membranes " > or should the English rendering include the conjunctiva/sclera even though > they're not specifally mentioned? > > Thanks > > Owen > > > Owen Beith - Translations FR/SP/PT>EN > 70 Sewardstone Road, London E2 9JG > +44 (0) 20 8981 9879 > Alternative e-mail address: beithowen@... Guest guest
Hi Owen, Unfortunately, my previous reply sent by email did not go through. In hepatic disorders, jaundice first appears on sclerae, and only in more severe cases it is seen elsewhere. I think this because mucous membranes and skin are specially noted in your document.
