Guest guest
Hello Ali, According to the ICD code: 81.42 Five-in-one repair of knee Medial meniscectomy, medial collateral ligament repair, vastus medialis advancement, semitendinosus advancement, and pes anserinus transfer " Deformans " is a Latin word, gerund form, meaning " deforming " (misshaping) - in other words, leading to or causing deformity. However, if it is part of the Latin name of a disease, a literal translation may be inappropriate. For example, osteitis deformans is Paget's disease. Good luck with your translation. Cheers. Since I am educating in Medical Translation, master degree, by research mode, could you provide me with any reference you have found about the synonym of " deformans " . I must analyze this word morphologically and find a synonym in my language for it. my research is about word formation processes and translation procedures applied on Medical terms from English into Persian. Thank u again Ali Re: deforman? five-in-one repair of knee? Guest guest
Dear Ali, I didn't actually use any references other than my head - I studied Latin at school and fortunately, there are some things you never forget :-). The Latin verb is " deformare " . You can consider any of the synonyms for " deform " in English (distort, misshape...): http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/deform http://www.answers.com/topic/deform?cat=health remembering that " deformans " is a gerundive form. I don't know if gerunds exist in Persian. Good luck with your Masters! Guest guest
Dear Sue Thank you for kind and prompt reply. Your words could be my reference, as I heard that u have studied Latin. Yes Persian language is full of gerunds. Accordingly, I found that " deformans " is a Latin word which has been accepted and borrowed as a single word in English language for medicine. However, it may be analyzed, if I wish to study Latin language. Thank you Sue for your effective information and your kindness. Good luck All the Best Ali Re: deforman? five-in-one repair of knee?
