Louie Louie

Louie Louie, me gotta go

Louie Louie, me gotta go

A fine girl, she wait for me

Me catch the ship across the sea

I sailed the ship all alone

I never think I'll make it home

Louie Louie, don't leave me

Louie Louie, me gotta ride

Three nights and days we sailed the sea

Me think of girl constantly

On the ship, I dream she there

I smell the rose in her hair

Louie Louie, don't leave me

Louie Louie, me gotta ride

Me see Jamaican moon above

It won't be long me see my love

Me take her in my arms and then

I tell her I never leave again

Louie Louie, don't leave me, me gotta ride

Louie Louie, don't leave me, me gotta go

" What the hell are the lyrics to that song Louie Louie, anyway?

Contrary to popular belief, this song was not written by the Kingsmen,

though it is their particularly incoherent version of the song which has

given it such a reputation for incomprehensible lyrics. The original writer

(and performer) of this song was Berry, a musician who is still

working to this day apparently. His last name is possibly what gave rise to

the occasionally encountered misconception that the Kingsmen ripped the song

off from Chuck Berry. The narrator is talking to Louie, a bartender, about

his lady love, describing how he needs to hurry back to be with her again. I

see it as a sort of Jamaican sailor's precursor to Radar Love. "

The original song is copyrighted material, and protected by U.S. copyright

laws, and probably by Louie as well.

Louie, Louie, oh no, me gotta go.

Louie, Louie, oh no, me gotta go.

A fine young girl, she wait for me.

Me catch the ship across the sea.

Me sail the ship all alone.

I never think I'll make it home.

CHORUS

Three days and nights we sail the sea.

Me think of girl constantly.

On the ship, Me dream she there.

Me smell the flowers in her hair.

CHORUS

Me see Jamaican moon above.

It won't be long me see me love.

Me take her in my arms and then

I tell her I never leave again.

REPEAT CHORUS UNTIL SOMEONE TELLS YOU TO SHUT UP.

AFRIKAANS

Louie Louie , oh liefling , ek moes gaan

Louie Louie , oh liefling , ek moes gaan

'n fyn meisietjie , sy wag vir my

Ek vang die skip oor die see

Ek het die skip stokalleen geseil

Ek glad nie gedink ek sal maak dit tuis toe nie

Drie aande en dae het ons die see geseil

Ek dink van die meisie voortdurend.

Op die skip, ek droom sy's daar.

Ek reuk die roos in sy haar.

Okay, laat ons dit vir hulle dadelik gee!

Ek sien Jamaican maan daarbo.

Dit sal nie lank wees nie ek sien my liefde.

Ek vat haar in my arms en dan

Ek se vir haar ek sal nooit nie weggaan nie.

Louie Louie, oh liefling, ek het gese ons moes gaan

Laat ons gaan

also: the dirty lyrics:

" Back in 1963, everybody who knew anything about rock 'n' roll KNEW that the

Kingsmen's Louie Louie concealed dirty words that could be unveiled only by

playing the 45 rpm single at 33 1/3. Eventually the FBI got

involved,conducting a thirty-month investigation that led to Louie's

reputation as a dirty song. This investigation led to the following most

common set of dirty lyrics, collected by the FBI in Tampa,Florida in 1964 " :
