Guest guest
Hi All, I came across this: " In 1961 Asperger first described a functional intestinal disorder leading to behavioural psychosis.' Is this the orginal description of Asperger syndrome? Has anyone ever seen, or read, his original paper, which is presumably in German? If the above statement is true, why don't we know more about the functional intestinal disorder? Can anyone clear this up for me, please. TIA Patience
Guest guest
Hi, Should have done more homework first. Sorry. Original paper was 1944; the 1961 seems to relate to coeliac, but, as so often, everyone seems to be quoting each other, and every so often the quote changes........ Asperger wrote 300 papers, many of them on AS, but I'ver never seen anything other than what other people say he said, so I'd still like to read some originals if anyone knows where I can find any. Guest guest
I have a very old paper from Asperger but nothing mentioned about intestinal disorder. Oh my God. we absolutely have to get our hands on this!!!!!!!!!!! I am often in Germany. I'll try and locate the original paper at the university library.. Can you provide the URL to " In 1961 Asperger first described a functional intestinal disorder leading to behavioural psychosis.' so I have more information to go on. This is an incredible missing scientific link. Pateince, Well done!! onthesosh schrieb: > > Hi All, > > I came across this: " In 1961 Asperger first described a functional > intestinal disorder leading to behavioural psychosis.' > > Is this the orginal description of Asperger syndrome? Guest guest
Found the source. Asperger H. Die Psychopathologie des coeliakakranken kindes. /Ann Paediatr /1961; *197: *146-51 The title translated is: 'The Psyhopathology Of of the Celiac Child'. I have just done an internet search and cannot bring up the original article. I'll see if I can get this at a uni library. onthesosh schrieb: > > Hi All, > > I came across this: " In 1961 Asperger first described a functional > intestinal disorder leading to behavioural psychosis.' > > Is this the orginal description of Asperger syndrome? Guest guest
It looks like Uta Frith translated the very original article in 1991 http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=jDgVET2a6lYC & pg=PA29 & lpg=PA29 & dq=asperger's+original+publications & source=web & ots=NgYcrxcrbu & sig=jxLLesaPcJ_SbicRkQspx91XFGs & hl=en & sa=X & oi=book_result & resnum=10 & ct=result I hadn't realsied just how long this work had languished. .... I wonder if this one _ever _was translated? I think this could be an amazing find! Very exciting. I could try looking here at Birmingham if needed (but I don't think we could have anything so old) - I expect it would need an interlibrary loan from the British library. Best wishes, Sandy >> Found the source.> > Asperger H.
