Guest guest
HI, I hear you about getting off the drugs. I told my therapist that doctors get you hooked on these things leading you to believe that they will help you greatly, but in my opinion, all they do is cover up the symptoms and leave the " problem " grow. I think if I had proper care and help for my TMJ, tinnitus/hyperacusis in July of 2003 when it first started, I would be in a lot better condition than I am now. It all started with a jaw injury that lead me to TMJ, then tinnitus/hyperacusis... that lead me to Chronic Myofacial pain, that changed my body stature from " straight and tall " to " bent over and head forward " , that lead me to whole body trigger points from not standing up properly and the muscles pulling my spine way out of whack... that lead me to that chronic pain cycle... that lead me to fibromyalgia (or in this case 4 out of 5 doctors opinions. One rheumetologist said he did not believe I had fibro, but in his report to my PCP called me " an unfortunate woman " ?? and sent me to a pain clinic). I went to the pain clinic that put me through four hours of misery with four doctors/thearpists, poking and prodding, and after all of that, wrote me a letter three weeks later telling me that they believed because of my sensory defensiveness they did not believe I could tolerate coming to the clinic for pain treatment! So now what do I do?? Well, the " last resort " as I call it... three doctors told me to see a psychiatrist! OH, but they could write me some prescriptions to ease my pain! I am so happy to have found internet lists such as this that not only understand what a person is going through just trying to be out in public (and most times just living at home too), but will back you up when you try to explain a symptom, and that will sit here and read your whining story the whole way through (if you are still with me, thank you very much), and pat you on the back and tell you, " yes, we understand " (and you really do). It is a vicious road we all take when doctors are ill-informed or under-informed. Some just do not understand what a life of chromic pain is like, and to top that all off we start to develop (as least I developed them along the way) all these sensitives to light, motion, sound and getting panic attacks, and then begin to be treated by some in the medical community like you are a nut case. Then the " doctor shuffle " begins! A term I made up to try to prove that I am not a hypochondriac or a drug seeker... not to say that I should have to prove that to anyone, but it happens. Then the ENT " S subject you to hearing tests that I believe damaged my ears worse. Now I have chronic vertigo and I was handed meclizine! My point is that along the way, each doctor gives you yet another drug, or tells you to get off what Doctor " A " gave you " because it can become addictive " , and they give you something else that is just as addictive or worse! So now you have seen 10 doctors and they all pull out the prescription pad and write you up something else. Those drugs tear up your stomach so they give you an antacid prescription (you all know the " purple pill, correct?) and that creates a set of problems gastric problems all of their own. Now you are legally addicted to drugs and you are called a " drug seeker " ! Where does it end?? Oh and they ever give you one drug to try to get off another one?? lol... And if you think trying to get off legal drugs is bad... have you ever tried to stop eating sugar, the legal drug food stuff?? Try to go without anything with a bit of sugar in it for three days... see how long you last! I never smoked but I know smokers that can not quit at their best efforts and I applaud those that have quit. That is leagal addiction. So getting off addictive substances, if they be food or pills, is very difficult. Perhaps we need a " tough love " camp where all doctors are sent to get addicted to pain meds and emotional drugs, and then just abandon them there to cope on their own! A new " reality show " for TV perhaps? I bet it gets a lot of viewers... many have been down this road. My goal, If I can ever get enough help to go out in public, is to be an advocate of proper pain and medical care, to allow Eastern Medicine to be covered by insurance companies, and for the JAW joint to actually be allowed to be called a part of the human body and be covered by insurance companies. Thank you for listening.... and yes, I bet most of us can agree that getting off the " stuff " is a lot harder than getting it in the first place. Ann B. -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
