Guest guest
I found the number I was looking for. It's in this link, Lang and Stoller, figure 1. They say Pa O 2 under 500 is hps. Mine was 279. Pa O2 is the ABG with 100%oxygen for 20 minutes. Normal is above 500. The way they write it is 500< normal >500 abnormal. Needing some resources Good morning everyone, It is time to ask for some help so I am posting on a couple of boards to see if I can find the answers, this is something I don't see a lot of on these boards, yet it has a lot to do with the problems caused by varices. Everyone is always so helpful, sending links, encouragement and support. So here is my dilemna: yesterday I had a completely different kind of test done due to the fact that I am becoming so shoort of breathe walking from the parking lot to the door leaves me out of breathe. I had a Blood oxygen test done....one with room air and one at 100% oxygen. The results printed out on a little like receipt size piece of paper with a ton of numbers that I do not understand. Does anyone know of a link that can explain this test and the results? Thanks for your help, Judy <!-- #ygrp-mkp{ border:1px solid #d8d8d8;font- family:Arial; margin:14px 0px;padding: 0px 14px;} #ygrp-mkp hr{ border:1px solid #d8d8d8;} #ygrp-mkp #hd{ color:#628c2a; font-size: 85%;font- weight:bold; line-height: 122%;margin: 10px 0px;} #ygrp-mkp #ads{ margin-bottom: 10px;} #ygrp-mkp .ad{ padding:0 0;} #ygrp-mkp .ad a{ color:#0000ff; text-decoration: none;} --> <!-- #ygrp-sponsor #ygrp-lc{ font-family: Arial;} #ygrp-sponsor #ygrp-lc #hd{ margin:10px 0px;font-weight: bold;font- size:78%; line-height: 122%;} #ygrp-sponsor #ygrp-lc .ad{ margin-bottom: 10px;padding: 0 0;} --> <!-- #ygrp-mlmsg {font-size:13px; font-family: arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif;} #ygrp-mlmsg table {font-size:inherit; font:100% ;} #ygrp-mlmsg select, input, textarea {font:99% arial, helvetica, clean, sans-serif;} #ygrp-mlmsg pre, code {font:115% monospace;} #ygrp-mlmsg * {line-height: 1.22em;} #ygrp-text{ font-family: Georgia; } #ygrp-text p{ margin:0 0 1em 0;} #ygrp-tpmsgs{ font-family: Arial; clear:both;} #ygrp-vitnav{ padding-top: 10px;font- family:Verdana; font-size: 77%;margin: 0;} #ygrp-vitnav a{ padding:0 1px;} #ygrp-actbar{ clear:both;margin: 25px 0;white-space: nowrap;color: #666;text- align:right; } #ygrp-actbar .left{ float:left;white- space:nowrap; } ..bld{font-weight: bold;} #ygrp-grft{ font-family: Verdana;font- size:77%; padding:15px 0;} #ygrp-ft{ font-family: verdana;font- size:77%; border-top: 1px solid #666; padding:5px 0; } #ygrp-mlmsg #logo{ padding-bottom: 10px;} #ygrp-vital{ background-color: #e0ecee;margin- bottom:20px; padding:2px 0 8px 8px;} #ygrp-vital #vithd{ font-size:77% ;font-family: Verdana;font- weight:bold; color:#333; text-transform: uppercase; } #ygrp-vital ul{ padding:0;margin: 2px 0;} #ygrp-vital ul li{ list-style-type: none;clear: both;border: 1px solid #e0ecee; } #ygrp-vital ul li .ct{ font-weight: bold;color: #ff7900;float: right;width: 2em;text- align:right; padding-right: .5em;} #ygrp-vital ul li .cat{ font-weight: bold;} #ygrp-vital a{ text-decoration: none;} #ygrp-vital a:hover{ text-decoration: underline; } #ygrp-sponsor #hd{ color:#999;font- size:77%; } #ygrp-sponsor #ov{ padding:6px 13px;background- color:#e0ecee; margin-bottom: 20px;} #ygrp-sponsor #ov ul{ padding:0 0 0 8px;margin:0; } #ygrp-sponsor #ov li{ list-style-type: square;padding: 6px 0;font-size: 77%;} #ygrp-sponsor #ov li a{ text-decoration: none;font- size:130% ;} #ygrp-sponsor #nc{ background-color: #eee;margin- bottom:20px; padding:0 8px;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad{ padding:8px 0;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad #hd1{ font-family: Arial;font- weight:bold; color:#628c2a; font-size: 100%;line- height:122% ;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad a{ text-decoration: none;} #ygrp-sponsor .ad a:hover{ text-decoration: underline; } #ygrp-sponsor .ad p{ margin:0;} o{font-size: 0;} ..MsoNormal{ margin:0 0 0 0;} #ygrp-text tt{ font-size:120% ;} blockquote{margin: 0 0 0 4px;} ..replbq{margin: 4;} --> ____________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
thanks Bob, Unfortunately, I am confused. The letters that you are using are similar yet different than what is printed on these results. Here is what mine says: This is the 21% Room air printout: ACID/BASE 37.0 *C pH 7.469 (arrow up) pC02(little 2) 32.9 mmHG p02 (little 2) 103.2 (arrow up) mmHg HC03(little 3) - act 23.4 mmo 1/L BE ( 0.3 mmo 1/L CO-OXIMETRY tHb 13.2 g/dL s02(little 2) 98.3 % F02(little 2)Hb 95.0 % FC0Hb 3.3 (arrow up) % FMetHb 0.1 % FHHb 1.6 % OXYGEN STATUS 37.0 *C ct02(little 2) (a) 17.8 mL/dL Then it just goes on to give ranges. If I have just confused you as much as I am.......I apologize. If you can make heads or tails of this, it really is appreciated. Thanks. Judy > > I found the number I was looking for. Guest guest
The 100% oxygen for 20 minutes test is what gives the doctor the preliminary info for this diagnosis. The normal po2 is going to be above 500. If your reading after sitting and breathing on the 100% oxygen for 20 min. is the po2 103.2, that would be quite low. Mine as I said was 279. I cant tell by reading your numbers if that reading was the result after breathing 100% oxygen for 20 minutes. Do you have the 100% oxygen printout? Guest guest
Thats interesting. You are at sea level. Did they tell you you have a pulmonary shunt? I was told that your ABG after 20 minutes on 100% oxygen should be over 500. You saw DR Grahms notes on my test. He said that it should be higher , but didnt say how much higher. Lang anfd Stoller's paper in figure 1 says 500, and I recall DR Grahm saying it too. My problem is that sea level 279 is not enough to classify as a MELD exception. If I were you, I would ask directly " Do I have Hepato pulmonary syndrome " and " Can I get a standard Meld exception for it? Guest guest
Bob, The transplant clinic told me that when they did that bubble doppler thingy (I used to know the exact name) back when they first did my evaluation that I was positive for the heptopulminary syndrome or shunt then. At that time I was not experiencing the shortness of breath. Of course, they did not tell me this until I started talking about the shortness of breath and describing what happened at work last week, which they had said that I was hyperventilating (never done that before). I actually did the Liver walk in October. Three miles, though I was behind the rest of my team, I still did it. I know that I could not do it now. The transplant clinic did tell me that my meld score would change when and if I had to have oxygen supplements. I actually have a couple of things that they are watching. The oxygen is one thing. The other of major concern is the developement of 4 new, what appears to be tumors in my liver. June's MRI showed none. October's CT showed 2 and the December MRI showed 4. When the largest reaches 2.0 cm they said that it would change the MELD. That is the more worrisome of it all,the possibility of it spreading outside the liver. I hae actually been following the threads of being listed at two transplant clinics and had made up my mind to contact my insurance company tomorrow. Bob, thank you for helping so much today. I wanted a better understanding of what I was looking at, and I have it now. You helped a great deal. By the way, you may be interested........the site Abijann gave is informative, but it also has some great links on it, some of which include a calculator. I could not figure out the calculator, but maybe you can. Judy > > Thats interesting.
