Guest guest
This is a posting from a doctor on another list regarding evaluation of medical information. " ....a general " report card " of things to consider when evaluating medical information on the Internet (or where-ever): http://www.carelife.com/virt_comm/sharing.html#c3 This report card is useful in evaluating ANY medical information...regardless of the modality. I pose a slightly general question...how do you know if the practicioner in the white coat is practicing the best medicine for YOU? Perhaps they are operating on their 1950s-1960s medical training and while experienced in this era, their knowledge is obselete? Perhaps their choice of a protocol is determined on what the healthcare payor (insurer in the US) is willing to pay...and not in the best interests of the patient? The internet makes the entry-cost of the snake-oil salesperson much lower (e.g. medicine A cures whatever ails you), thus reintroducing an old problem. The audience is argueably more educated...but when you pitch magic to an audience eager to hear a particular message...they are just as gullible.
