Guest guest
Some new members might like that but others might not. Perhaps once a week or so we could encourage new members to introduce themselves. It seems that most new members do introduce themselves, though. New members, what do you think of the moderator putting your comments of why you want to join the group as a post to the group by way of introducing you? Colleen MaC wrote: I was thinking as members are approved for the group that maybe the Moderators can post an introduction for them. MrsTigerhawk, your thoughts? As I approve new members, I thought I would just cut and paste their request with a small welcome note. This way we know who are new and why they are here. When someone applies to the group it asks for a reason, but as a Moderator I can't reply to them. I can only approve or disapprove their request. Many people give explanations as to why they join and I think it would be important to share. I know many people would like to be anonymous so I am posing the question. Any thoughts? Guest guest
I think it is a good idea. I know when I subscribed I didn't put anything in the intro that I didn't want everyone to know. Is there a way for the invitation to communicate that the message will be posted to the group? > I was thinking as members are approved for the group that maybe the > Moderators can post an introduction for them. Guest guest
I don't know about this list, but on other lists there are quite a few lurkers. Some people want to " feel " the group out, so to speak. When it says to give a reason for wanting to join a group, you expect the moderator to read it...not the whole group. Some people prefer more anonymity, as evidenced in User IDSsuch as " MsTigerHawk " , " cruzpuppies, etc. Its a fine idea so long as the member knows who he is posting to. You would have to get their permission first. Re: Question for the Group I think it is a good idea. I know when I subscribed I didn't put anything in the intro that I didn't want everyone to know. Guest guest
This list not only has lurkers, which is fine if they just want to know about this disease but are too shy to say anything. It has also come to my attention that half the members are bouncing and no longer active. The owner of this group is absent and the moderators were not given many privileges at all, so it's hard to run this group. We can't change the picture on the group homepage and we can't distribute files each month. In fact, we can hardly do anything. Therefore, I took it upon myself to start a new group and I sincerely hope that everyone from this group will join that group. That way it will be the same people and the same discussions and the same caring support and information. http://groups.Yahoo.com/group/LiverCirrhosis Colleen Croft wrote: I don't know about this list, but on other lists there are quite a few lurkers. Guest guest
Didn't we just vote on this a few months ago and decided not to? Re: Question for the Group I think it is a good idea. Guest guest
Too late now, people are already joining the other one. It's really hard to run a group with an absent-tee owner. Guest guest
Yes. we did. P.S. the owner is not in absentia.
