Guest guest
Thanks . In English texts the sclera seems sometimes to be mentioned as well as skin, etc. but you've reassured me that I can simply refer to skin and mucous membranes here. Guest guest
I'm afraid I can't agree with about skin coloration reflecting the severity of the jaundice. The sclera do not take up bilirubin faster than the skin or mucosae. It is just that yellow eyes are more easily detected than yellow skin (especially in dark skinned people). Even mildly jaundiced babies have an unmistakable yellow tinge to their skin. If someone is jaundiced, their sclera, skin and mucous membranes will be yellow. cheers Sue > >Hi Owen, > > > >Unfortunately, my previous reply sent by email did not go through. > > > >In hepatic disorders, jaundice first appears on sclerae, and only in > >more > >severe cases it is seen elsewhere.
