Thanks . In English texts the sclera seems sometimes to be mentioned

as well as skin, etc. but you've reassured me that I can simply refer to

skin and mucous membranes here.

I'm afraid I can't agree with about skin coloration reflecting

the severity of the jaundice. The sclera do not take up bilirubin

faster than the skin or mucosae. It is just that yellow eyes are more

easily detected than yellow skin (especially in dark skinned people).

Even mildly jaundiced babies have an unmistakable yellow tinge to

their skin. If someone is jaundiced, their sclera, skin and mucous

membranes will be yellow.
