I replied:

I am very surprised to read:

<Theyy are not a translation agency but a firm (hence " associés " ).

<You must treat them like a direct client, and send a legally binding

<contract plus ask for 40% at least upfront, and without telling them

<this strategy, get paid the balance before sending the last 2 files

<(or parts of project).

<I am telling you this from bad experiences with the USA, and that is

<not the only country.

<Getting paid by agencies or direct clients is always difficult for us

Indeed on 18.01.08 we received the following news from them:

We have worked with all three of the original " associées " (you can call

your business virtually whatever you like in France: as far as I am

aware the word " associés " here does not indicate any particular type of

business, merely that several people own/run the company). Look at their

website www.vidal-associés.com. It mentions nothing but translation and

related business. As far as I am aware they have no connection with the

USA in any way (apart from probably using US based translation suppliers!)

Folke, I don't think you should not hesitate to work for them.
