Guest guest
Hello, I joined this group because of my 4 year old daughter. She has sensory issues where noise bothers her a lot, noises dull or loud. She gets bothered by airplane or truck noises coming from outside. She looses her concentration. She is just learning how to talk bc she has motor coordination issues with speech. She gets very upset with noises that kids make in her class when they are agitated. That makes her very upset. My question to you is, is there a way to desensitize sound sensitivity isssues. thanks Houry
Guest guest
This is so sad that your daughter has to deal with this at such a young age. I too have a four year old and I know how frustrated children can get when they're bothered by something and there's nothing they can do about it. The ONLY nice thing about this disorder (or whatever it's labeled as) is that when you're a child you can scream, cry, bite, hit, run and express your emotions exactly as you are feeling them. When we become adults we have to learn to control it so we can function in public even though the intensity is the same and we still want to scream, yell, hit, cry etc... I miss the kind of freedom I had as a child to release my emotions!!! I really wish that there was a group like this when I was a kid so that my family could have better understood what I was going through. They always thought that I was controlling and neurotic. I got yelled at and laughed at a lot. It's wonderful that you're trying to help her as opposed to punishing and ridiculing her like I'm sure the majority of us have experienced growing up. To date, there is nothing that really fixes the problem although I've read on here that earplugs and various noise therapy has helped some people and It seems alot of people are asking teachers for special help at school as far as seating arrangements (away from irritating noises or people)and things that lessen the chances of irritation. Good luck! Kim > > Hello, I joined this group because of my 4 year old daughter. She has > sensory issues where noise bothers her a lot, noises dull or loud. Guest guest
My daughter is getting frustrated a lot. Unfortunately there is a kid in class who just lost his mother to a car accident and he is very agitated crying all the time, which is effecting my child. it is a sad sad situation for both kids. Luckily we have a very understanding teacher who is trying to use some headphones on her right now just to take the edge out. we will see what happens. thank you Houry From: Soundsensitivity [mailto:Soundsensitivity ]On Behalf Of kimpulsiveSent: Friday, April 28, 2006 3:07 PMTo: Soundsensitivity Subject: Re: sound sensitivity in my kid This is so sad that your daughter has to deal with this at such a young age. Guest guest
The stories involving children is really getting to me. I want to write up something for the public, TV, radio and such. Maybe taking surveys to find out who is affected by this. SO many people do not know it is not only them and the kids have longer to suffer the longer we do not make this public. (US TOO!) I did a survey on my own email address book and found 2 people with this SSS. If we can make this worldwide let's say on the news shows maybe that can help start this thing going... pia > >Reply-To: Soundsensitivity >To: <Soundsensitivity > >Subject: RE: Re: sound sensitivity in my kid >Date: Mon, 1 May 2006 08:45:33 -0700 > >My daughter is getting frustrated a lot.
