Guest guest
Shirley, Maybe the point of all this is that "Tuna" and others are missing the point here. Perhaps they think that Steve set out to show us all that he could do this thing, walk across the country and lose weight, and then we could all live or try to live by his example. Maybe "Tuna" is right and I am the one who missed the point. I thought this was an act of desperation on Steve's part, a mission to try to stay alive, and regain something he had lost. He chose to let others in on his journey for whatever reasons, but I never thought it was to prove anything except, perhaps, to himself. So we all went along and shared the pain and the revelations, the bad days and the good. We did not go with him to see if he made it, geographically or weight wise. We went along because we (most of us) wished that we had the courage or resources to do the same thing. Now he is finished with the walking part, but his personal journey continues. Some of us will continue with him as long as he chooses to let us, and will continue to wish him well, give him advice or opinions (hopefully, politely) when he asks for it. It amazes me to observe how calm and polite Steve remains in the face of the rudeness of strangers. That is a true mark of maturity! Maybe Tuna has it right and I am the one missing the point, but I do not see it that way. Walley I have a name and do not hesitate to use it TO: SOLID WHITE TUNA - NAME NEVER GIVEN I guess the difference between you and MOST of us on here is: We don't scrutinize what we each do. If someone sends a message wanting to ask for advice we are more than willing to offer any help we can. The same goes for Steve. We don't SCRUTINIZE what he eats. We EACH have our own food preferences. As for me MOST of the choices you offered would not attract me. I HATE low-fat peanut butter - I would rather do without. I would not like instant hummus and instant beans - BUT I do like them cooked the normal way. How would you fix instant hummus and instant beans without a stove - I would imagine you would at least need boiling water.I don't like fat-free pretzels but I do like pretzels. I eat them but try to stick to the serving size. I DO like fruits - fresh AND dried - but they are kind of expensive. I like granola and I put it in my yogurt.I LOVE V8 juice. I like whole wheat bread BUT only the heavy kind I don't like the soft whole wheat - it's not as good for you either. My favorite would be the flax and fiber bread but that is more expensive. I also like the pre-packaged salads but I would want my LIGHT olive oil and vinegar on it and my fresh ground pepper and sea salt.Foods that only need hot water out of the tap include:soup mixesinstant oatmealquick pastasMy taste would definitely differ on these - the tap water would not get HOT enough for me for these. I like my water boiled. You see we all have different tastes AND different budgets. I'm sure we ALL have things that we have to work through and sometimes they work out - sometimes they don't. The same goes for eating habits. Eating habits are VERY HARD to break. I have to CONSTANTLY work on my eating habits and even then I'm not always PERFECT. I just do the best I can a day at a time - tomorrow is another day IF it comes for me and then I try again. ----- I always hope I have another day to work on it - I have to keep my pall bearers in mind - HA. However, where I spend my ETERNITY is my BIGGEST goal.I admire you that you can do what you HAVE to do to stay slim - it's not SO EASY for most of us. MOST of us have to struggle with it.Shirley from Southern Illinois
