Guest guest
Mom fell...again. Her Bili is 5.49, Alk Phos is over 250, Ammonia is 43, Sodium is 132 and her Potassium is 4.3. Nothing stands out as the reason for her falling. I help her with the roll, stand, pivot, pull pants, sit, pee, stand, wipe, pull pans up, pivot, sit, roll onto side...11-12x a day. Having her fall last night during the pants pull was pretty depressing. It was like slo-mo watching her fall, not being able to keep her up. Now the skin tears, 3 new ones. Urgh....and we have tailbone breakthrough...bummer. She is pretty unhappy, looks bad bad, not eating much but mandarine oranges, Boost and toast. I just wonder how LONG will she have to suffer. Praise GOD she doesn't have pain (other than the skin tears and soreness from the fall). I wonder if her ascites is worse and that is what is making her fall. I'm thinking it might be time for a paracentesis. Who does your paracentesis? Surgeon? Regular MD/DO? Gastro? Tech? Pamela
Guest guest
Gee, Pamela, I'm so sorry you are going through this and that your mom has to suffer. I'm glad you have strong faith too, because I cannot imagine going though this without it. How bleak life would be then for sure. Your post sounds SO familiar. No one can possibly know how long. My uncle has decompensated cirrhosis, and can still drink whiskey , has acites, and I think he is over 80. He is kicking, just like a mule, and was at the last family reunion. Hang in there, Pamela. Remember, yahoo chat is on at all hours, I am keeping my blackberry on all the time since Dave's wife, Aimee got her transplant and it was handy that he rang in and we passed the hours all night long. Guest guest
Pamela, Can you rehash for me why she's not in hospice or a hospital? I'm sure you posted something way earlier... Paracentisis is usually done in a hospital in a inpatient setting. Although my wife had one done as an outpatient. It took me almost two hours to get Tricare to approve it since their system showed it as inpatient. Anyway...The person that did my wifes worked in radiology, I think. He used ultrasound, tapped the belly, and removed the fluid. Samples were sent to the Lab to check for sepsis or infenction. But I am pretty sure it was Radiology. It wasn't a specialist. But, I'm concerned that maybe you need more help. Are there opportunities for someone like hospice to come into your home and help? In a hospital setting a catheter would be in place. Can you remind me how old she is? There may be a time, that regardless of her wishes to stay at home, that you may need to go to the ER. I am worried about infection from the skin breaks and that you said " tailbone breakthrough " Can you explain that? Is bone actually protruding from the skin? MaC Ohana5 wrote: Mom fell...again.
