Guest guest
Yep, it's sort of like a mini insurance hell you live in for a while. It was bad enough for his coverage, but it was even worse for mine as his dependant. I ended up with no coverage at all for about a year while they got all their stuff worked out. I must say the problems we had were with the insurance carrier though, not my husband's company. They were absolutely wonderful to us after Terry's accident. I don't know how we would have made it without their support. We have always been so very thankful for them and all they did for us. Their insurance company was another story though. ________________________________ From: abijann <no_reply > To: livercirrhosissupport Sent: Thursday, November 20, 2008 9:38:37 AM Subject: Diane....For All:Beware of disability plan through company We had a similar experience with ours. This would be good to tell those here who have a disability plan through their employer, that they take off their checks for the entire time they work: My husband was placed on STD and then went onto LTD. He paid for years and had subtracted from his check for a disability plan through his employer. When my husband went on LTD, he was told he had to sign up for Social Security disability. When he got approval for this, his company informed us that anything we received from Social Security, that amount would be subtracted from the amount we would receive from this plan. We would either get the difference or if the Social Security turned out to be more...we would get nothing from them. (remember we had taken off his check for this plan for years) Look into the plan you have with your company and see if this is the case for you also. My husband employer than informed us that my husband could no longer be on the good plans with his company...he was to go onto a Medicare plan and they would go secondary for awhile. Every year they switched his insurance all around and we never knew what we were going to have and whether his doctors and hospital would be part of that plan. It was a nightmare for us.
