Guest guest
I just wanted to add my experience to the posting about the use of music as therapy. Through the years, I have developed my own relaxation and coping methods, but music and nature sounds have been a constant. I have a sound machine beside the bed which offers, surf, rain, waterfall, and bubbling stream. I tend to alternate between the surf and the bubbling stream. When pain is at its worse, I visualize my pain washing away with either the ocean's ebb and flow or in that bubbling stream. I know that stream so well that if I were an artist (I can't draw a straight line with a ruler.) I could paint a picture of it. I also have a 5 disc CD by the bed which has a variety of soft music and nature sounds. I turn it on and set the stereo to continuous play. If I wake up in the night, which I do a lot, I can listen to the music and focus on my breathing until I'm able to get back to sleep. Just my experience, but I'm a definite believer in the use of music and natural sounds in coping with pain and fatigue. BTW, I seem to be finally coming out of the extreme exhaustion that had me stuck to the bed. I'm trying to pace myself as I've been asked by a couple of organizations to write articles on returning to work. I'm excited to be accomplishing something again. Guest guest
Hi a , I am Irish and I can tell you a bit about that song . Scorn not his simplicity was written by Luke ( The Dubliners , from way back) and it was written for his son who had a learning disability. It was written at a time when children with disabilites were hidden at home or sent to institutions still. ( tale end but it was still that way). He died of a brian tumour but was the most amazing musician and song writer. Its much rawer and eathier when he sings it . Its wonderful [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Music I love U2 and Miracle Drug is a favorite too because of that line not to give up.Funny this came up...I have some birthday money to spend and I'm spending it on MUSIC. It's the one piece of technology in this house that is mine (the ipod, that is) and nobody can touch it :)Anyway, one that touches me deeply is Scorn Not His Simplicity by the Irish Tenors. Unfortunately it's not available as a download from them on ITunes. I think you have to buy the whole CD. It's one of the most profound things I've listened to.a(who is not Irish BTW)
