Guest guest
My prayers are with you and your family. My husband is so much happier at home. they wanted to send him to a VA treatment place for 2 weeks after his last hospital stay but he wanted to go home. I was scared to really do it as I wasn't sure what to expect and if he needed emergency care as we live out in the country so not real close to a hospital. We have made it through okay though and he just sleeps when he wants and eats when and what he wants and seems to be more content. In the hospital they were prodding and poking him al lthe time and sure didn't like it there but he needed to be there for the 2 weeks he was last and I know will probably be headed back there again. How hard it must be for your small son to understand about his dad. My children are all grown so they are well aware of what is going on. He has back pains one day and the next says his side hurts to press on it. Alot of pains. He eats only small amounts at a time and says it settles better in his stomach so he doesn't get sick. so up at nights now eating a bowl of cereal , etc. ________________________________ To: livercirrhosissupport Sent: Wednesday, November 26, 2008 11:03:14 AM Subject: MyHusband Thank you everyone for being so helpful and supportive. It has been a great comfort to be able to get such personal information from people who live with the illness (in one way or another.) My husband is back in the hospital. Being on antibiotics for so long has sent him back for more, apparently. They think they lowered some natural bacteria in his bowel (or something), so they are treating him in advance of its onset. His spirits are up and down. Being home is huge, but they can give him pain meds and take care of him in ways that I can't here. It sucks. Our 4 year-old doesn't want to stay here anymore without his daddy. I've decided to get counseling for both of us. I'm off to the hospital in a few minutes to visit, so I just wanted to thank everyone. Keep the prayers coming! HUGS, Kim

Guest guest
Ohhh, Kim, what a dilemma. I see what you are saying. The access to veins through an IV changes a lot of things as far as how effective a doctor can treat a a person with this disease. Guest guest
It turns out that they could not find a cause for the elevated temp. The fluid has reduced over these past days in the hospital and they kept him comfortable with meds. He's due home again today, sometime. We're going to the liver clinic and he needs a procedure on his scrotum, etc. Hope is a bit higher, as the last doc said that he is not at the point of needing a transplant. She seemed to think he still has some time, maybe a chance to become eligible for a transplant? Another question, Since my husband is such a tall/big man, will finding a liver for him be more difficult than a regular-sized person, or can they drop any liver in there? Thanks, Kim Subject: Re: MyHusband To: livercirrhosissupport Date: Wednesday, November 26, 2008, 6:28 PM kim, can i ask what they are doing to increase the good bacteria in his stomach? Guest guest
HI, Kim. Glad to hear you sounding more hopeful than before. It really is good to meet you and have you in this group. To answer your question about liver sizes- the human liver is the most amazing organ* They can give your husband a half a liver, and it will fill out and grow to the size he needs. There is a condition called steatohepatitis, where the liver may become very enlarged, well, one reason is the ppresence of fat cells, but anothere is that it gets bigger in order to have more working cells to do it's job. When the liver cells die off en masse, they are often replaced by scar tissue and this becomes cirrhosis. So, to re-cap, the liver can change sizes, it can swell up, it can become full of scar tissue and shrink up, and a transplanted graft can grow enough cells to fill in such as when a living donor gives a piece of his/her liver, and I two months time, it grows back. Matching his blood type, and other considerations are more important, I believe. This is my oppinion only, based on what I know to be true. Someone here might disagree with me, and they might be right. For now, you hang in there, keep up the fight, remember that it's not the end just because someone tells you it is. You'll know when it is, so for now, see ya, LOve, Bobby Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile Re: MyHusband To: livercirrhosissupport Date: Wednesday, November 26, 2008, 6:28 PM kim, can i ask what they are doing to increase the good bacteria in his stomach? Guest guest
That's what Ed has is steatohepatitis. His liver and spleen are both enlarged. He is sleeping right now. We went out to watch our senior in high school son play his violin with the high school strolling string group he is in and sing with the high school show choir. Luckily they were both performing at the same place, one right after the other! Ed gets so tired when we go out, so he sleeps. I go for my EGD on the 5th to see if I have an ulcer or stomach infection or what. .......now I'll really be able to sympathize with what Ed goes through! Guest guest
Oh, dear, JIll. I am really sorry about you not feeling well too. I personally do not like to have the EDG, but hopefully the doctor will see what is going on and be able to treat you. Guest guest
Jill, I am so happy that Ed was able to go out and see your son perform. I know he's paying the price now, but I also know it meant so much to him to get to do it, as well as to you and your son. I will be remembering you in prayer on the 5th. I have never had a bad experience with the EGD and I have had more than I care to remember. I pray everything goes well for you and that they find your problem and are able to help you feel better soon. I can tell you that an ulcer causes a lot of pain, but a bad case of gastritis can also be painful and make you very sick. Whatever the problem, I'll be happy to know they have found it and are doing what is necessary to make you feel better. Just so you know, you all are in my prayers.! Hugs............. Guest guest
Lyncia, I am so sorry you are still having so much trouble with sleep. I know from Terry's sleep patterns that it cause havoc in your life and in the life of those who are taking care of you. I haven't found anything that helps one way or the other. It's pretty much under the command of his body. Whatever his body needs, that what it gets and he nor I have any control over it whatsoever. I pray you will be able to get some sleep very soon.
