Guest guest
Penny, My day just started and you started it with a smile! Thanks you! Lyncia In life family and friends take us on all kinds of adventures, God helps us choose our path....Enjoy your journey! Subject: Wanted To Share To: livercirrhosissupport Date: Wednesday, November 26, 2008, 11:55 PM First, I want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Friday, my husband, my dog, and I had a photo shoot for a calendar that is being made by a non profit organization in the Chicago area called Pets N Patients at http://www.petsnpat ients.com We will be featured on the September, 2009 page. The story I wrote of how important my pets were to me while I was ill, and will be when I start my treatment for the Hep C treatment on Tuesday are also featured. I was emailed the page today as a .pdf file, and I copied it and made it a .jpg file, so I posted it to my photo album. My story is unreadable on the picture of the calendar page, but the calendar will be for sale when it is completed to raise money for the organization Pets N Patients. I can write the story on this site if you would like to read it. Pets N Patients help people who are very ill keep their animals when they are unable to do so because of illness by providing respite care for the animals. This all came about with me because I volunteered to help the organization, and told the owner that I understood because of my being sick before my transplant. She then wanted me to be a part of the calendar to raise money. There are two Shih Tzu's who need respite care after the holidays and I volunteered to take them in, but we have to see how my treatment makes me feel first before I can decide if I can do it or not. I hope everyone is doing as well as can be. I will be including this group tomorrow on Thanksgiving as what I am thankful for. Penny
Guest guest
Lyncia, Thank you so much! You made my day saying what you did. After I post things like this, I think I'm such an idiot posting what seems to be so selfish. I just want to share my good news, what makes me feel good, and not always have to do with liver disease to you all since you're like family. Everyone else here seems to be having problems, and I used to be in that boat too, but I'm so much better since my transplant. I just have to start and complete my treatment. I've been feeling lately like I don't belong here anymore because I am in much better health now than most of you are. It makes me feel like I don't have anything useful to say. I'm sorry. I'm tired. It's been a long and wonderful day, but I think it's time for sleep. Guest guest
Thanks, Lyncia, , and Abijann. I had too much fun yesterday at my parent's house for Thanksgiving. I ate like there's no tomorrow. Last Thanksgiving, I couldn't eat because I was so sick. My husband and I took our Karaoke machine over there and we all sang karaoke after we ate. It was funny and so much fun! I have a headache today from having too much fun yesterday. My dog, , is all wore out today too. She goes everywhere with me. Last night when I posted, I was so tired, and I was thinking about Tuesday coming and starting treatment. I had a moment of fear on top of being tired. I'm so dreading it, but it has to be done. Without treatment, my new liver may only last a couple of years compared to the 25 years my original liver took to fail from the Hep C. I'm keeping a positive attitude, though, and I've been trying to keep focused on other things. It's funny how Bobby said in one of his posts that liver transplants aren't for sissies because that wasn't that hard for me. I felt better and better after transplant since I was so sick at the time of transplant, but this treatment scares me. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the treatment is 48 weeks long, and I may go from feeling good to feeling sick from the side effects. The treatment is backwards compared to the transplant. The hernia surgery I had before the transplant scared me more than the transplant did. By the time the transplant came, I was so ready to do it. I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Guest guest
HELLO PENNY I REALLY LIKE WHAT YOU WRITE AND ENJOYING READING. THEY GAVE MY HUSBAND 2 TO 6 MONTHS. AND I DONOT KNOW WHAT HEALTH YOUR BODY HAS TO BE IN TO WITH STAND A LIVER. IS THERE CERTAIN LEVELS YOU HAVE TO HAVE TO GET A LIVER. ITS BEEN 4 MONTHS ALREADY. BUT HES SLEEPING ALL THE TIME AND HE HAD A SHUNT PUT IN TO RELIEVE ALL HIS FLUIDS. SO HE DIDNOT HAVE TO KEEP GETTING DRAIN OFF HIS STOMACH. BUT NOW THE FLUID IS IN HIS FEET. I WAS WONDERING IF YOU WENT THROUGH ALL THIS BEFORE YOU GOT YOUR LIVER. THANKS.LINDA Subject: Re: Wanted To Share To: livercirrhosissupport Date: Friday, November 28, 2008, 3:07 PM Thanks, Lyncia, , and Abijann. Guest guest
Penny, I am so happy that you had such a nice day at your parent's house and that you could eat anything you wanted and as much as you wanted! I know the thoughts of your treatment are scary for you. I just want you to know that I'm praying for you that the treatments will go smoothly and you will have the minimum of reacation to the medications. What a wonderful Thanksgiving for you; a new life ahead of you thanks to your new liver and the generosity of your donor and donor family. A chance not only to give you more time with those you love, but for them to know the death of their loved one was not in vain. Do take care of yourself and know that I am praying for you. Oh, and BTW, don't you ever think you're not needed or wanted here! Your experience and your generosity and selfless love are always needed and WANTED here! Thank you for being our encourager and for letting us share in your incredible experience. You have made an indelible impression of me. I will always treasure you because of your willingness to share so openly about your experience and how everything affected all areas of your life, right down to the stresses over who would take care of your precious while you were so sick. You cannot be replaced and we certainly wouldn't want to try to! There's only one Penny and we're so blessed to have you with us! Hugs........... Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your kind words. I didn't have a shunt in but I had to be drained from my abdomen (paracentesis) done a few times before getting my liver. I was really nauseous and vomiting all the time before my transplant, and slept a lot too. When a person gets referred by their doctor to a transplant center, they get evaluated by the transplant surgeons, hepatologist, etc. They will test for everything to make sure the patient's body can withstand surgery. Only the doctors at a transplant center can decide if your husband is eligible to get a liver. Has your husband been referred to a transplant center and started the evaluation process yet? Take care. Guest guest
Hi , I was on the list for one month and a day, but I had to go to the hospital 15 days after being placed on the list to fix my umbilical hernia. It took three days to get my body in good enough shape to handle the short hernia surgery by getting whole blood, plasma, platelets, albumin transfusions, as well as some kind of shot to help my pancreas not work so hard. Three days after the hernia surgery, I was released from the hospital. Two days after being released, I had to go right back because my labs were out of whack, and I went to the top of the list shortly after. My MELD score jumped up very fast within just a few weeks. Nine more days of blood transfusions, electrolytes, etc., and a match was found and I had my transplant. I spent a total of 27 days in the hospital before and after my transplant. When I had my first appointment for the transplant evaluation, I was told that my liver had about 3 or 4 months of function left in it. I got my transplant a little over 4 months after that first appointment. I hope your husband can get on the list soon.
