Guest guest
Hi all, I'm currently in talks with the current owner of fours.org (www.fours.org) to see if he would consider selling the domain name. Waiting to hear back. If he doesn't want a lot of money for it, I'm considering pickiing it up. Of course, if we started a not-for-profit, I'd gladly transition the name. I think the name is really nice. It has been registered for a while, but has no content, and is easily remembered (could be pronounced " four - Es - Dot - Org " , or simply " forz - dot - org " ). I've also considered picking up for4s.org (for four s.org), which could be a website " for four s " . A bit confusing, but a nice ring. What are people's opinions? Having a very nicely designed website completely dedicated to four S, especially with a very attractive design, might really help places like wikipedia, or even the average joe, really understand where we're coming from. -Matt

Guest guest
I think a website is a great idea. I think hatenoise.org is a good possibility though maybe the word sounds would be better than noise. Here's some brainstorming of other ideas that are available for normal price at network solutions (I only listed the .com extension but other extensions available): soundscausestress.com helpwithsound.com help-with-sound.com support-with-sound.com supportwithsound.com hatesounds.com soundsstress.com stressfulsounds.com > > Hi all, > > > > I'm currently in talks with the current owner of fours.org (www.fours.org) > > to see if he would consider selling the domain name. Guest guest
That's a good point...I've been telling my kids to use the word " dislike " instead of hate. Guest guest
Since soundsensitivity.com is $700.00, I guess that one was ruled out. Once a site is set up, can't you choose different words or combinations, for use in the search engine to find the site, such as hate, eating, sounds, chewing, anxiety, sensitive, noises, etc. Any of these word combinations would then lead to whatever site name is chosen. It seems the words we use, for searches, are almost as important than the site name itself. I kind of like something like soundsensitivity, since it is part of the name that Marsha gave our condition. > > That's a good point...I've been telling my kids to use the > word " dislike " instead of hate. Guest guest
That domain is being sold by someone at godaddy. Guaranteed if we put together and offer significantly lower than $700, we'll get it. I say we offer $300 for the name. I'll gladly pitch in $20 - if we can get 14 other people to agree to pitch in $20 it'll be easy. though soundsensitivity.com is hard to type. -Matt > Since soundsensitivity.com is $700.00, I guess that one was ruled out. > Once a site is set up, can't you choose different words or > combinations, for use in the search engine to find the site, such as > hate, eating, sounds, chewing, anxiety, sensitive, noises, etc. Any of > these word combinations would then lead to whatever site name is > chosen. Guest guest
Yes. soundsensitivity seems right to me. Names with the word NOISE don't really work because I think that the word noise somehow means loudness. Just my opinion. Guest guest
I work in the computer field, and noise just means something that isn't wanted. For instance, if we get too many emails about one particular item that we don't care about, I sometimes respond to people and say " This is just noise to me. Can you remove me from this list? " We sort of refer to it on a day to day basis in the office too. So noise doesn't always mean loud. I interpret noise to be unwanted " stuff " . These sounds are definitely unwanted, too. > Yes. soundsensitivity seems right to me. Names with the word NOISE > don't really work because I think that the word noise somehow means > loudness. Guest guest
Just a few words about how search engines work. We don't have to submit certain limited phrases to an engine, nor do we need to worry about having an address containing the terms people might search for. Search engines are smarter than that. What they like most is content. Essentially, Google reads every word on the page, and then determines that page's ranking based on the frequency of the words in it. That's a simplification, of course - for example it ranks some words higher than others (eg headings more than body text) and it likes some other things (for example, if lots of highly-regarded and relevant sites link to you then that's good for your ranking) - but what matters most is content. By its very nature, our site will be full of references to things like sensitivity to sound, distress caused by eatings noises, etc etc, and therefore when people search for those things we should rank highly. (Eventually - the site will be in the 'sandbox' for a bit - all new sites have a kind of probation period with google.) As long as our content is good, people won't have trouble finding us. In other words, the address of the site doesn't need to contain any particular keywords. It's more important that it makes sense. In my professional opinion the best url for a site is generally one as close as possible to the name of the site, or a pithy version thereof. For our site, in the interests of credibility, I think it would be good to have a name which is close to the medical term for our condition as defined by Marsha. 'Sound Sensitivity' sounds credible and professional. 'Hate noise' sounds much less professional to me. I feel we want to create a site which people feel they can trust to give them accurate information about this little-known condition, and something as emotive as 'hate noise' will give the impression of a lack of rationality and reliability. That's my twopennorth, anyway. Kate ----- Since soundsensitivity.com is $700.00, I guess that one was ruled out.
