constantly get him out of the class.....

GRRRRRR

don't even get me in to this!!!

Last year I was in the same situation.

I put the nurse in her place 1rst of all

The I start to document every time that that they will put him out to go home

even cause he was to sleepy!!

That is what got me off my mind.

Then the rash was another one.

the cough

The bad behavior issue

I got in touch with a professional and ask , what can I do?

1rst if they send him to the doct and you take him and he has nothing..

You showed proof of it you can even take him back that same day, at 2:45

( I know is a pain to be at the docs for several hours)

But , talk to your principal instead of the teacher also, teachers and aids find

it easier that way when the are out of staff , our kids do not have an assigned

aid.

Unless a child has a temp for more than 100 % they can't send them home.

Even with a cough.

They can call you to go fill up a short form, to allowed u to give your child

the medication, and if you put as need it on it, you do not have to comeback and

sign again.

Nurses and teacher's are also very scare of bruises , scratches rashes cause of

being blame by the parent.

Also make sure that when they call, you show an attitude knowing the rights of

our children.

My 3 sons have seizure protocol info and also asthma eczema and other issues in

when to call and when not to call.

I was blessed that I had a great lawyer that has advice me for the last years on

it.

Also with immunizations affidavid ( sorry about the misspelling)

forms along with this yahoo group.

I had situations where they will even return my 3 sons about 3 to 4 times a

week.

Talk to someone professional about this, there are advocates and even lawyers

that you can ask this questions.

Also double check on your child IEP (Individualized education plan)

And include some new ideas ( cause one of my sons use to even use " the sleepy

issue " as an excuse, cause he knows the nurse will send him home that way.

I wrote at Not to send home list, base on legal advice.

Nurses think they are Nurses when they are not, and feel that is their job.

Some over do it, but is because must of our aids and teachers just can't handle

our children well.

I just got a note about my youngest one yesterday " about a rash " of course he

sill on diapers is cold down here and with sweat pants and them not changing

their diapers at school when they are should obviously he will have a rash "

they describe " BURNING buttom "

Nurse said " I had to put Vaseline.

When I have in that back pack 2 different creams, that means they did not even

open up the backpack at all.

I have the nurse sending a note about my oldest son, scratching to much his

privates... like that is new, that is very usual on our children and even

regular boy's a check and nothing.

If they were a little more educated they will know that.

But they did not call me at all.

I will admit that they traumatized me with me not being close to the school I

can't go 45 minutes away without being hunted about them calling me and me not

be there at the time they want me.

I even start to unplugged my phones at once.

But his year it was different cause we put our foot down.

also start questioning why? where? , star saying " he came with a scratch and so

and so, they won't like it.

Good luck and just get as much info as you can, but Do not let them rule your

life and allowed them to get you fired from work or something.

ps.. if you need the info on a good lawyer please contact me off list.

Can you request the school policy on sending a child home? Ana

I need some advice from the more experienced autism parents out there. I have been having difficulties with my 9 yr old autistic ( & MR) son's school. My son does not have any major medical issues, however, the school has called me nearly once a week for the past month or so wanting me to pick him up from school for insignificant health problems. It started with a bloody nose...the nose stopped bleeding in less than ten minutes. He had approximately 6 blood drops no larger than a quarter in size on his shirt. The school demanded that he be picked up immediately from school...he was not allowed to ride the bus home. Even though he had a change of clothes at school and there is a washing machine in the bathroom attached to the classroom. The next incident was a diaper rash. My son is not potty-trained, so naturally he gets diaper rashes every now and then. He had a mild diaper rash - no

bleeding, but he kept putting his hands in his pants to scratch/rub the rash...the school didn't think this was appropriate behavior as it was dirty and wanted me to pick him up from school. When I refused they had a nurse from a neighboring campus (our nurse was out sick) come to the campus to look at my son and then call and lecture me on the appropriate ways to treat a diaper rash.Today the school called me at 1:55p (school gets out at 3p) and told me that he had a rash on his stomach that the nurse believed was contagious and was spreading. They told me that I needed to pick him up immediately and that he would not be allowed back at school without a doctor's note. I advised the teacher that I was approximately 45 minutes from the school and asked if he could still ride the bus home becuase he reacts very violently to changes in his routine. arrived at the school about 10 minutes before the normal release time. His "rash" was a small area about two inches in diameter that had scratch marks from him itching. I hate to be blunt, but it seems to me that they are trying to get rid of your son. They don't want to deal with the hassle, so they are making up these bogus claims. I'm sure you're in the ARD process already. I would request that your son have an aide, if he doesn't already. Someone who will get to know him well and who likes him. Someone who can speak for him when these things occur. It might be helpful to get a doctor's note to give to the administration, something that the school nurse as well as his teachers can read, that states that your son scratches at his skin a lot. I think there is a diagnosis for that. It's probably a way for your son to stim, or it could be obsessive behavior. A doctor would have to diagnose it, preferably an autism specialist. You may need to get an advocate, you can get their services for free, while others need to be paid. They can take control of an ARD on your behalf and get you the services your child needs. They know the law.

mature professionals will deal with the issue at hand and move on. seriously, none of the items mentioned require removing a child from school. i'm curious to know their agenda.

You know their agenda! Get out of educating the child!

I went through that with -- finally I just had an ARD meeting and said that if there were so many health issues that they felt the need to send him home for - then maybe we should ARD in a private nurse for him....

M. GuppyMy autism journey isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.... Texas Autism Advocacy: www.TexasAutismAdvocacy.org

"There are some aspects of a person's life that we have no right to compromise. We cannot negotiate the size of an institution. No one should live in one. We cannot debate who should get an inclusive education. Everyone should. We cannot determine who does and who does not get the right to make their own choices and forge their own futures. All must."
