Guest guest
Anyone been threatened by their local authority with the truancy police? Proper name is School Attendance Improvement Service, I think. Our LA has now resorted to the lowest of the low - tactics of bullying and intimidation because we won't do what they want us to do. They won't agree to name the school on P's statement unless we agree to pay the fees. It is a private independent school (without special status). It is a laughable situation because we have it in writing from them that nowhere in Oldham can meet P's needs, they agreed to pay £35K p.a. plus travel to send him to an out of area school (the school rejected us) but they wont pay fees of £3K per year with no travel expenses......and the reason behind this stonewalling is that if they did it for us, it would set a precedent for other families. Hence the SAIS - blaming us for witholding him from school when clearly his exclusion from school is 100% a result of them being unable to meet his needs. I am waiting for a call back from NAS Advocacy for Education advice line but in the interim I wondered whether anyone has had a similar experience of this type of threat - whether it is in fact legal, and what might constructively be done about it.
