Hi Everyone,

I have a question(as always--lol).  Is it common for those with cirrhosis to get

liver cancer or tumors on the liver.  I had to have an MRI yesterday to check

for that.  From what I have been seeing on some sites it is a normal test they

do with liver damage.

As for the dang test itself--uggg.  The x-ray tech asked me if i was

choltrophobic(sp), I said no not really but hey who is really looking forward to

being but in that little tube and feeling helpless.  So into the machine i go,

then she starts telling me to take deep breath let it go then not to

breath---yeah right easier for her to say.  I did tho--like 10 times in a

row--yay me.  Then out of the machine to get the needle with the stuff in it.

She asked if i had good veins I said yes i do, the lab lady gets me every time

on the first try.  Well this girl blew 3 veins then had another tech come in who

blew 2--finally i said ok one more time so make it count--cause if you dont get

this one i am done.  So the first girl says well maybe we will get out nurse she

is good at this. Ummm this is when i said well are'nt you trained to do it--they

both just looked at me.  The nurse came in, started smacking on my arms to get

vein, and she did.  Today i

look beat up and bruised--lol.  So needless to say next time i think they know

to bring the nurse in first---just in case they dont i will remind them--lol.

I go back to the doc on Friday to see how everything went---i am sure it is fine

tho.

Praying everyone is having a good day!

Ed gets an ultrasound and then sometimes an MRI to check for liver cancer every

6 months..I've learned to quit panicking and just wait for the results. A year

ago the tech found what she thought were nodules, but further testing showed

nothing. Also, that's how they found the huge Superior Mesenteric Vein

Thrombosis ( leading into his liver) last August....through a routine  6 month

ultrasound.

Hi, Tammy. I don't want this to scare you, but yes, the risk for HCC is

elevated. HepatoCellularCarcinoma is liver cancer. I do not know why, but a

scarred liver has a bigger chance of developing this. You will get a scan for it

every 6 months if your doctors are good. They are supposed to do alternate

types, CT scan, ultra sounds, and MRI scans. Next time you should tell them

right off the bat " I am a hard stick, please get your expert needler unless you

want to have a rough day. " Most of the time when I tell them this, they listen,

and do not even mess around. No health care professional wants to stab you over

and over, because after a while they get nervous, and start feeling really bad.

They know it hurts. I forewarn them because my veins roll around, and it really

plays hell with them. I have a digging rule. Poke as many times as you want, but

NO DIGGING AROUND!!!

Hope the results are negative. Love, Bobby

When I know I am going to have to have an iv put in, I tell the nurses that

I am a hard stick. I also tell them if they think they will have trouble

and there is anyone else who can do it without having trouble, I won't think

badly of them for not being able to on the first second or even third try.

Most nurses understand and usually call a lab tech, or a nurse known for

being able to put ivs in people who are a hard stick. I used to be so easy,

those veins would just pop out and say use me. Now they collapse and hide.

I have been told it is all the meds, dehydration at times, etc which has

caused the change. One when I was supposed to get blood drawn, when they

finally got it, it was so thick and didn't want to give enough, so they sent

me home to drink a lot of water and come back later. Jan H
