Dear Colleagues,

Please delete the previous portions of the mail before sending it. The extra

bytes would soon explode your mail box! (Not to mention how boring it is go

sieve thru the already read stuff !!)

Shah wrote: Hi there, Leonardo,

I had just met Nitin Gupte 1976, 2 days ago, when I recd your mail enquiring

about him.

He has joined Bharati Vidyapeeth as an honorary Gynaecologist.

His wife, Suvarna, who is a Paediatrician, had a sudden attack of Optic

neuritis when she was in the middle east. She hastened back to India, where

the final diagnosis is multiple sclerosis.

Things are now in control for the time being.

Santya, alias Santosh Prabhu, 1976 is a big shot neuro surgeon in Kolhapur.

And Pape, the salivating Sardar of 1976, is doing well in Nagpur.

I had met Akulwar 1977 a few years ago, and believe me, I was as

flabbergasted as you to see him in Olive green drills. God save the

country!!

Here is a verbatim message from Dr. Mridul Panditrao 1976, who had this good

fortune recently:

ON 27TH, DR. ( MRS.) MINNU PANDITRAO , AFTER FULFILLING THE

REQURIEMENTS (sic), WAS PROMOTED TO THE POST OF PROFESSOR IN

ANAESTHESIOLOGY (in DY Patil Medical College, Pune).

My animation and quiz on AIDS was selected by the Population Reports,

Hopkins University, USA and is being displayed at their web site as well as

packaged in their CD.

After Sevagram, I did dabble a bit in drama and theatre. My bent has always

been towards the humourous. So I did direct and act in a couple of funny

dramas. Then this bug for getting recognition bit me. Nobody appreciates the

art of a humourist. So I switched allegiance and directed a very serious

drama for BJ Medical College, Pune. I was gratified to receive the Best

Director prize at a state level competition. The leading lady in my drama

also bagged the best female lead prize.

Unfortunately, the call of the Papi Pet was too strong. All my drama

activities were very satisfying, but they did not translate into much hard

cash. So I sold my soul to the devil and concentrated purely on Gynaecology.

Sometimes, even now, whenever I have the creative urge, I write small

fictional pieces for the Indian Express. They pay me peanuts of course, but

its good for the id (as Duggal will tell you. This guy finds his way into

all my emails. I must meet him to purge him from my consciousness!)

I shall definitely keep your invitation in mind and the next time I'm in

Nashik, I shall drop in.

You have lost me- did I apologise for something?? I am happy enough with the

chat sessions (one of the reasons I love public health medicine)- and prefer to

leave the hard work of guidelines and stuff to Avita/ Kishore and

Dr.Kalantri. P.S. Any success with tracing Muffy? He is expecting his first

Please also encourage your spouse to write onto the group.

Hi Parthak,

I've been a part of this group for over a year. I wrote once/twice in the

past, otherwise have remained just a passive member. By the time I get myself to

write something for this group on one topic, the topic usually changes.

Moreover, god hasn't given me the fantastic expression power & memory which

many of our group members possess (Shahji, Sadhna, Duggal etc).

Dipti

P.S. One earnest request to the members: Kindly delete the earlier message when

u send reply to a letter before hitting SEND, 'coz without that we have to

download a chain of letters unnecessarily, wasting precious bandwidth as well

as time.

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your appreciative remarks. Why haven't you written

for a very long time Sir?We would love to hear about ragging at MGIMS in

your time.

Ajit Kulkarni is at Solapur. He ran a large Gynec hospital there.I will

definitely forward you his detailed address and phone number.I am not aware

whether he changed his surname and if so why. After he came from PGI

Chandigarh he started his private practice at Solapur, which happens to be my

home town too.His elder brother there was already an established and

successful Physician.Ajit was the first endoscopist at Solapur in those days

(83-84) and he got quite a reputation in his field. He went to one of the

Gulf countries somewhere in 95 and returned to resume his practice. We met

last in 93 at the opening of my hospital.Incidentally he is really my

uncle, being my father's cousin, but being a contemporary he treats me as his

cousin and not nephew.

Hi! Ravin,

I am Good. Malini,Archana, andAmulaya are in the U.K. I spoke with

Amulaya 2 yrs back. Someone has to take lead for our reunion. Malini is the

best person to do that. I hope she comes on the mailing list too.

Sangeeta,

Where are the other Sangeetas of our batch? Do tell me more about Malini,

Archana, , what are they doing in UK and where. Amulya is on this

mailing list, but puts in a word now and then. Where are you based?

I am practising clinical/medical ophthalmology, contact lenses, and migraine

in Jabalpur at my own clinic. I had seen someone just like you few years

back in Jabalpur, was it you?

Rakesh Kapuria married a girl from Jabalpur, he comes down now and then, but

we don't meet often mainly because I don't usually have the time...

Apart from the girls, Fali and Sanjay Ingle were also in UK, but I guess you

know more...

As for the re-union if you have Malini's email address, do get to her, I

will do what I can if my help is needed...

All the best,

Ravin '82

Dear Shyam,

No need to apologize, I put up messages on the board so that all alumni can

read them, otherwise I would have sent a personal mail to Sangeeta nee

Wadhwa's address...

Thanks for the update on Fali and Anuradha, Fali's birthday was on 28th

July, since I did not have his address/phone number could not wish him. That

is the story with most of my batchmates, I don't have their addresses...

To tell you quite frankly, I have lost interest in Surgical Ophthalmology,

and prefer to send my cases for surgery to colleagues here in Jabalpur. Thus

I am focusing primarily on the Medical side of Ophthalmology. Clinical

ophthalmology is an up and coming branch that deals with integration of

other medical specialties (example Medicine, Neurology, etc) with

ophthalmology. A good example would be pre and intra therapy ocular

screening for ethambutol or chloramphenicol toxicity... and similar things.

These are the neglected aspects of ophthalmology that I wish to take up in

detail. I have ordered some books on Clinical/Medical ophthalmology from US

(my uncle has kindly agreed to send the same to me). Once I become an expert

in this field, I can hopefully tell you more about it. Unfortunately there

is no fellowship in India in this branch, and probably very few across the

world.

What do you think?

Hi,

That's a good field to specialise and focus on and I

am sure U will have a great time becoming an expert in

that field. But,I can't say the same about me as I luv

operating,and yes,although,I still get hiccups,after

operating TILL the 1st post-op day,it is still fun

doing surgeries.I,hope someday,when I too lose the

intrest,I can look up to the medical side of

ophthalamolgy,that u mentioned.Hope u have a nice

time.Bye.
