Guest guest
When Sammy has a backup (which, thankfully, isn't as often as it used to be), I have him strip down to his socks and he puts his feet up on the front of the toilet seat, in essence assuming a modified squatting position. Works really well, even when he's pretty backed up. I noticed that in the beginning things are quite hard, but then after that is passed the normal stuff comes out behind it. Bear in mind that he is just going on 6, though small for his age, and is not using a training seat on the toilet anymore. kcventi wrote: someone from another list serve mentioned they sat their young child backwards on toilet b/c was more secure and they could "hold on" plus it kept their legs open so they couldn't withhold. Their child was much more comfortable and not afraid. karenm w <merrywbee> wrote: Hi-- no, I can't say that I've ever seen it mentioned here on this board before. I'll have to peek at the site later but yes, I've read that in particular for kids, the fact that their legs and feet are dangling when they sit on the toilet can interfere with their bowel movements and that it helps to put a wide stepstool in front of the toilet for them to place their feet. I do think that transitioning from a toilet seat insert from preschool age, to now sitting on the regular toilet seat all by herself has been a factor, in that if a child doesn't feel totally secure on the seat, of course they are not going to be able to "relax" and have a movement easily. It is a device that goes over a toilet so the user can squat (old-fashioned style) and the squatting position is supposed to release the puborectus muscle. I'd be curious if anyone has tried this and if they found it helped chronic constipation that doesn't respond to dietary changes etc. Best, B Do you Yahoo!?Get on board.
