Guest guest
Hi Barb, Well, the way I interpret his statement is that he is NOT saying DO NOT workout more than 3-4 x per week, just saying that if you do, don't expect to see more benefits by working out more than 3-4 x per week even if you do it 7 x per week.....more working out will not get you faster results.....it may aerobically but it certainly will not build more muscle as muscle takes longer to build and you do need rest periods for your body to repair the muscles.... Also, he doesn't want anyone to get "burnt out" before they even get working out....if you go full out to begin with, it's easy to get hurt or dismayed because it just becomes "too much"..... For myself, I find I have to take a day off here and a day off there as I need to rest and regain my focus so that when I come back, I workout better. I never knew really why I did that in the past but explained it very well in his book.....you're working out too much if you lose your focus, take a rest and regain your focus.... So, if 6 x per week works for you, by all means keep at it but don't feel bad if you cut back at some point....... I just recently made myself take one day off a week & do not relish taking another day or two off each week.Would welcome feedback from folks who have been at this a long time."Success is a journey; not a destination" (Anonymous)"Walk by faith; not by sight" (Dr. Price)"Stand for something or fall for anything" (Anonymous)
Guest guest
I read 's book and the conculsion I came to was this... If you want the aerobic workout, then doing it 5-6 times a week is fine, as long as you are not injuring yourself. If you want to build muscle, then do it only 3-4 x a week. The clincher is, that any way you look at it, your muscles DO need to recover. They only do that during the rest days. It is also during the rest days that they build more muscle to handle the continued workouts. It seems to me that it is wise to take at least 2 rest days a week in order to prevent injury to the muscles you are using during tae bo. I think the point was trying to make was that physiologically, it will not matter if you work out 3 times/week, or 6. The benefits will not be that different. The alternative is to cross train. go for a walk, or go swimming. Use different muscle groups on the " rest " days. Then you are still getting a workout, but allowing the tae bo muscles to heal and rebuild. I trained for a marathon last year, and I can tell you, that unless you let your body repair and build muscles, you will eventually injure yourself. We did the " long " workout only once a week. The others were varied between medium and short workouts, and we ALWAYS rested the day after the long workout, for the specific purpose of repairing the microtears in the muscles we had used. We also usually rested the day before. And as we got closer to the actual marathon, we were supposed to " taper " or cut down on the workouts to allow for maximum repair, recovery, and building of muscle right before the actual event. Hope that is helpful. should we be doing it more than 4x a week? >I have been doing Tae Bo 6 days a week and now wonder if I am doing too much, >especially since suggested 3-4 work-outs a week in his book?? >I had alot of joint pain before Tae Bo so cannot judge if I am overdoing it. >I do know my back and neck are much better since starting Tae Bo and I feel >better after exercising.
