Guest guest
http://www.baileyeng.com/paston_effect.htm I have read our esteemed Mr. 's paper several times and given that I am on a small Caribbean Island, I have to mention that I have observed pretty much every sympton described with the exception of the recessed roll down shutters. One thing in the paper was a reference to larger homes being more prone. The larger homes would require multiple air conditioning systems possibly with multiple zones per system. It seems that people who can afford large homes, cannot afford to keep the whole house cool. They tend to just like to pay the power bills for cooling the areas of the home they are presently occupying. So when systems are off, they do not remove mositure. It reminds me of someone who owns a Hummer but complains about $5 a gallon gasoline. With multiple systems, you get some interaction as well with one system indirectly cooling another systems space reducing run time. Smaller homes would tend to be a single system air conditioner and perhaps this makes them less prone. Something else that I find common in the larger homes is a large master bathroom, or even a his and hers large master bathrooms of 200 to 400 square feet or more. You access these bathrooms from the master bedroom. What they also seem to have is large walk in closets that are adjacent to the master baths. They store all kinds of potential fungal food adjacent to the highest moisture source in the entire home. Without a substantial exhaust fan system there is not much luck capturing excessive moisture, and with powerful exhaust fans that capture the moisture, you can induce 200 to 400 CFM of infiltration through the typical recessed lights or the exterior walls.
