Guest guest
>just to mention re our own lab or etc I read about the amish people in a new england area organized and negotitated wiht the local hospital for lower costs. thier theory was that they needed their community to do business wiht the hospital, and threatened to pull out of the medical game there if they did not get significantly lower costs, as they paid part out of pocket I think. they did get what they wanted because of the number in their community posed a financial threat to the hospital if they were to leave. . > > > > _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar – get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/
Guest guest
All the insurance companies do the same thing. So do the Small Businessmens Assoc. I don't know why a bunch of people can't get together ( like an entire county or counties - and negotiate with insurance companies - why do you have to won a big or small business? Why can't people organize their own group? ANd get a group negotiated rate? Guest guest
Yes, this is our problem. There are millions of us but we're silent. We have no clout. Somehow, we need to change that in a big way, to start getting the care we deserve. penny > > >just to mention re our own lab or etc > I read about the amish people in a new england area organized and > negotitated wiht the local hospital for lower costs. thier theory was that > they needed their community to do business wiht the hospital, and threatened > to pull out of the medical game there if they did not get significantly > lower costs, as they paid part out of pocket I think. they did get what > they wanted because of the number in their community posed a financial > threat to the hospital if they were to leave. . > > > > > > > > > > _________________________________________________________________ > FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar – get it now! > http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/ >
Guest guest
It's so funny Barb. Insurance companies were originally created in just this manner. Communities pooled their resources to protect families from financial ruin. Look what it's become. As far from the original purpose as possible. I used to live near the Amish. Some of their ways were a bit odd to me (like fastening their garments with straight pins) but I have to say that they really had it together when it came to taking care of their community. Mormons seem to do the same thing, to some extent. Maybe we should create a religion. Who wants to be L. Ron Hubbard? :- ) No, but seriously. Somehow, if we could pool our resources and develop some muscle, we could start having an impact. penny > > All the insurance companies do the same thing. > > So do the Small Businessmens Assoc. > > I don't know why a bunch of people can't get together ( like an > entire county or counties - and negotiate with insurance companies - > why do you have to won a big or small business? > > Why can't people organize their own group? Guest guest
Very true. But pharmaceutical companies and medical facilities make money on us. why do you think they fight so hard against alternative meds and nutritional supplements (not that there aren't some legitimate concerns about those industries). Somehow, we have to wrest control of our health care away from the profiteers. Can you imagine if we set up our own health centers and labs? Hired our own docs? Did you know that it's extremely easy to become a licensed pharmacy? Just need to hire a licensed pharmacist and we'd be set. We could provide drugs at much lower cost to our own patients. Hey, insurance companies would probably like those savings. But this is a big dream. It's probably kind of how HMO's got started, before the profiteers took over. On a more practical note, can you imagine if we were a non profit and we funded legitimate studies that took chronically ill patients with nondefined illnesses like CFS & FMS and IBS and RA and simply tested them for all these specific things that are generally overlooked? Like porphyria, and ICH, and all the various bacteria (and fungi) that could be tested (and treated!) but are ignored instead. And what would happen if our results were published showing what's REALLY going on in all these people who are tossed aside as ill with unknown causes? It would be impossible to ignore the kinds of data we would accumulate. I feel it in my bones. Once it became public, so many more people would come out of the woodwork screaming for change. Families would finally believe us when we say we're really sick. Start standing up for us and stop saying (or thinking) we're hypochondriacs. True, our problem is needing the energy to organize this along with some seed money. But I swear, if I recover my energy, and even if I don't, if I somehow get a big chunk of money, I'm going to make it happen. I'll take the Trump approach. I'm tired of waiting for others to do what's right. I'm tired of being treated with incompetence and indifference by the medical establishment. I'm tired of seeing money trump the hippocratic oath. penny > > The trouble is, the Amish and small biz guild and such are groups > with normal health, and their insurers make money on them. But I want to add that IBS is diet caused and >people simply need to change their diet into mainly cooked veggiies/grains >if tolerated /and lentils (legumes)/meat if desired as well as fresh fruit >plus definitely get off wheat/sugar., and off salads/raw stuff. I hear of a Dr Rau in Germany who is a mainstream arthritis dr and now is curing? people of RA wiht diet and suppplements. this largely because he saw that the mainstream treatments did not work, . Now I am not certain how much ruth there is to his staement but that is his claim. paracelsus clinic, germany. there they also believe that root canals are bad and pull them. Amy Very true. Guest guest
I agree that we need to join resources. Think 5-10-20 years ahead. I don't believe that evidence medical will understand and cure us unless we start to show the way. On person suggested to get our own researchers out from med school. That if we can influense research with grants or own facilities. What if we are a world wide network with local representation in several countries. Patient support groups exists almost everywhere. In sweden I'm trying get people with Borrelia, CFS, Teeth infections to start talking to each other around borrelia(we basically have the same problem) In Denmark there is an organisation DanInfekt for chronic diseases. We do need country local groups as health is heavy controlled and part of the problem is in the words 'evidence based medicin', Some MD is starting to recognise this and I belive there options are limited if they whant to keep there legitimation. I don't think money is a problem, I know several people that are spending >25000 EUR for treatment of borrelia in germany. Limited energy may be a problem if we let it. /Per penny wrote: > No, but seriously.
