Guest guest
Hi , I am very easily distracted also. It seems like I am unable to focus on any one thing for a very long period of time. I think it has something to do with my anxiety as well. I would definitely say it may be a matter of feeling annoyed at being easily distracted, if it wasn't for the huge amount of anger and rage that I feel. It doesn't seem like an appropriate feeling because of a distraction.I do feel like I have ADD sometimes and I really do have to make an effort to focus and not to think about 50 million things at one time while I skip from one to the other. Thanks for your input )andraTo: Soundsensitivity Sent: Tuesday, December 9, 2008 1:36:33 AMSubject: Are you easily distracted? I've been thinking about distractibility and 4s, and how it seems that it's pretty normal to be bothered by noises that distract you, especially if you're really trying to concentrate. I'm very easily distracted, and I'm wondering if others with 4s are as well. Maybe we feel just a like a normal person does when interrupted by an annoying sound, only we feel it almost all the time? Guest guest
I am easily distracted as well. I am having the hardest time in college right now. Computer class is enough to make me suicidal. I have missed 3 classes because of 4S. I asked my doctor about medicine for ADD, but she said that I don't fit the classic symptoms, so she won't prescribe meds. I have decided to get my degree in Biology and then go on to med school. Someone who suffers from this disorder is the only one who is driven enough to find a cure!! paula ________________________________ > > To: Soundsensitivity > Sent: Tuesday, December 9, 2008 1:36:33 AM > Subject: Are you easily distracted? > > I've been thinking about distractibility and 4s, and how it seems that > it's pretty normal to be bothered by noises that distract you, > especially if you're really trying to concentrate. Guest guest
I've thought about going into biology or audiology too, so I can do my own research on 4s. It's a bit late for me to start a new career that requires years of schooling, however. Neurology seems like the field most likely to hold some answers--and that would mean lots of classes. I don't know about 4s not fitting in with classic ADD symptoms. ADD, especially in girls and women, sometimes shows up quite differently than the classic inability to concentrate, being disruptive in class, etc. I've read lately that ADD in girls manifests as withdrawal. Here's something about this that you might find interesting: http://add.about.com/od/childrenandteens/a/girls.htm > > I am easily distracted as well. Guest guest
From the website I referenced in the last post (wow this sounds like me): What are some of the red flags or warning signs that parents and teachers should be aware of related to girls and ADHD? Difficulty maintaining focus Easily distracted Disorganized and " messy " Forgetful Difficulty completing tasks Daydreaming Slow to process information and directions (It may even appear that they aren't hearing you) Careless Often late (poor time management) > > > > I am easily distracted as well. Guest guest
I am easily distracted because of my 4S. That is one of the frustrations of having this condition. If a sound is causing me to feel pain in my ears, then obviously that is distracting. But mainly: It comes down to not being able to tune sounds out, like a " normal " person is able to do. Goes back to what many have said in this group: when telling someone about their condition, the reply is: " Why don't you just tune the sound out? " Our answer being: " Well, because I can't, duh! " For some reason our brains don't work like a " normal " brain should. So it can be very disabling when you are trying to stay focused on things. This is why I find wearing headphones, focusing on one thing in my ears like a brown sound or music, helps me to be a little more focused. Unfortunately there are so many situations where wearing headphones is not possible, considered disrespectful, or makes it difficult to communicate. And so the frustration (and pain) begins... -Randall

I wanted to tell you about a personal hero of mine. I am bipolar (pretty severe but I respond to meds thankfully!) and it has been a hard road... being different, no one understanding, etc.... There is a Psychiatrist named Dr. Kay Jamison and she is a beacon for all who suffer from bipolar disorder. She was the first to write books and disclose that she herself was severly bipolar. She has written 5 or six books now and they are all basic reads for bipolar patients. She not only got to be a shrink but she was the head of psychiatry at UCLA and now she is the head of psychiatry at 's Hopkins University.. what an amazing job to be held by someone with my disorder. Her being out there and honest, and being a shrink herself makes my world a better and safer place. It is so good to know that someone from the inside is working on your behalf because they suffer the same way you do. Good luck, your gonna need it because that's a lot of school and a lot of sitting in a room with other people (exhausting!). If you do make it, don't forget to own your 4S and share it with the world, who knows how many lives you could touch?! LIsa > > I am easily distracted as well. Guest guest
I was thinking about this the other day. I am also easily distracted. I think that we have been training our brains to file things away for so long that our brains do it on a regular basis. I know that after I leave a triggering situation that I'm pretty good and supressing my anger and thoughts. > > Hi , I am very easily distracted also. In my case, the auditory distraction is more closely related to the subtle auditory distractibility associated with ADHD Inattentive than anything else. Years ago I became keenly aware of this while temporarily working at an insurance company as an underwriter where there were ringing phones on every desk in a large office (dozens of desks). I began to realize that my sensitivity to background noises was far different than the others who worked in the office as they could automatically screen out the ringing telephones. Am aware today that sensitivity to noises can vary and involve: ADHD Inattentive Rare sound epilepsy (to ringing bells even human voices) Hyperacusis Selective sound sensitivity Mild brain injuries - mild concussion side-effects Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) and so on - ctw
Guest guest
Oh, yeah. Have been really easily distracted all my life, but it seems to be getting worse the older I get. But I don't know if I can relate it all to sounds. With sounds, I guess the agitation I feel makes me lose focus more easily though. I'm trying to just accept it and laugh, walk away for a minute if possible, or just stop and try to refocus. Or just lose it!It so helps hearing you all mention all this stuff and knowing there are others out there trying to muddle through the best we can with this. I always just thought I was an odd little duck and kept quiet. If I shared with a friend, they just thought I was weird, said they had never heard of anybody feeling that way before. Nobody said life was fair, did they? Just a big hug to all of you out there. We're in this together! To: Soundsensitivity From: charles_w_2000@...Date: Sat, 21 Feb 2009 15:33:26 +0000Subject: Re: Are you easily distracted? > > I've been thinking about distractibility and 4s, and how it seems that > it's pretty normal to be bothered by noises that distract you, > especially if you're really trying to concentrate.
