Guest guest
Agreed 100% that is exactly how I feel when I am in a bad way, scrambled. But I feel that it is psychological which then causes the reaction to the nervous system, this is just IMO, just like the flight or fight response acts.... Do you also feel disgusted??? From: Soundsensitivity [mailto:Soundsensitivity ] On Behalf Of Tammy Case Sent: Tuesday, 2 December 2008 1:03 PM To: Soundsensitivity Subject: disconcerting sensation I know there's lots of theories floating around about what causes 4s such as OCD, Post Traumatic Stress, Ear infections, Psycho issues, and the like. I just find it hard to agree that it's purely psychological and not neurological. And here's why: Today I was at Best Buy waiting for an associate to help me and I had to stand there for quite some time. There was another customer there walking up and down the aisle looking at the large array of televisions. Y'know how they have one whole wall dedicated to tv's? Anyway... he had this rip/snort but Dry sniff that happened chronically about every two minutes and he walked up and down, up and down, just looking at the tv's so stupidly. He didn't even have a purpose. Which made me SO ANGRY...you know we get. Anyway, the point of all this is to say that when he would sniff, I had the very distinct and disconcerting sensation like my entire central nervous system was being disrupted. It wasn't just dislike. It was very painful physical sensation that set my skin on edge! I couldn't think a thought! It was like...for that moment...my brain was scrambled! It's like when you're watching a movie or dvd on tv and actually change that special channel it has to be on so the whole screen goes slanty and weird and makes that awful buzzing sound. Know what I mean? I felt...disrupted, jarred, electrocuted. It was AWFUL. It wasn't a Dislike. It wasn't an annoyance. My nerves were like being interuppted or something. UGH...shudders. Anyway, that's my disconcerting experience today.
Guest guest
But isn't fight or flight reflex an involuntary physiological response and thus would not be psychological? I truly feel there is some neurological component as well, which is why I was hoping for an evaluation from Dr. Lawless when I went to Dr. Phil. Instead I got relaxation CD's... bleh... Guest guest
I agree that 4S has got to have a neurological aspect to it. I find that on my worst days (which has been daily as of late) I feel like my brain is in a fog... and I really have trouble concentrating on even the simplest of things. If it affects my brain that much... it's got to be stemming from my brain to begin with! LOL. > > I know there's lots of theories floating around about what causes 4s such as OCD, Post Traumatic Stress, Ear infections, Psycho issues, and the like. Guest guest
Flight or fight is, unless learned to react differently, involuntary. Although a bad example, my point was that psychological aspects has a direct and often overwhelming reaction to the neurological system, ie nerves organs etc. Think about something that scares you and you pulse is likely to increase for example, or better still think about the sound of a chip crunching and what happens??. If it is not a learned response and is a hard wire stuff up somewhere in our brain...or little toe for as far as we know, then that could be causing the reactions on the mind which the mind has learned and has further enhanced..... Havent eaten or drunk anything all day because of a blood test so I cant think, I will come back to this tomorrow. But I guess on the other side of the coin, a chemical imbalance, or something wrong with your neurological system could also have a direct response on your psyche.... hmmmm now you make me question myself. Guest guest
I think my 4S is getting worse as peri-menopause progresses! I have total brain fog! Guest guest
I definitely know that feeling you're talking about. I have often referred to it as " making my skin crawl. " It's like you're uncomfortable (x1000) in your own skin. Ugh! I have recently started shuttering/twitching when I get annoyed...like a cold chill but it's not. I think it started as a conscious signal to my husband, but I've noticed I do it more often now without thinking about it. > > I know there's lots of theories floating around about what causes 4s such as OCD, Post Traumatic Stress, Ear infections, Psycho issues, and the like. Guest guest
The way I describe the feeling Tammy is talking about, is feeling all twisted up inside. It can be very jarring and disruptive.
Guest guest
For further example, my mom was trying to ask me about something the other day while my dad was crunching chips. I kept 'umm"ing and getting antsy. I couldn't even think straight to answer her question. Finally, my mom just looked at my dad and said "can you stop eating chips? She needs to think." Yep, that's so true. I'm literally scrambled. I'm sure lots of us have this same thing. Tammy
Guest guest
I've seen this same exact reaction in my daughter! She can't focus on anything when a trigger sound is occurring. -----Original Message-----From: Soundsensitivity [mailto:Soundsensitivity ]On Behalf Of Tammy CaseSent: Tuesday, December 02, 2008 4:29 PMTo: Soundsensitivity Subject: Re: Re: disconcerting sensation For further example, my mom was trying to ask me about something the other day while my dad was crunching chips.
