I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I'm thinking about going

back to school (after 15 years), and it's frightening to imagine

sitting in a classroom again. I'm going to try to tough it out

though, because I really want to be a teacher. I wonder if focusing

on your goal might help you get through the harder days.

You won't always have to deal with those neighbors and your roommate--

someday you'll find a better situation that you can handle. Having a

quiet living situation is VERY important to me.

Avoiding caffeine might help too, or finding a quiet place to study

(which is hard, I know). I don't know if you exercise, but that can

have a really calming effect on me when I'm particularly frazzled.

I don't know if you're interested in alternative medicine, but there

are several calming products you might try, like Rescue Remedy or

Calms Forte. I really don't know if they work, but the placebo

effect might do you some good. Who cares, as long as you feel better.

I hope you find something that helps--keep us posted.

Thank you so much for your reply and suggestions. You're right,

focusing on my goals does help me to try and ignore some of life's

little (or large) annoyances. As I type this, actually, the guys

upstairs are throwing a huge party, so they're stomping around,

laughing, screaming, and sometimes roaring. But not to worry, we've

asked them to quiet down many times now, so at this point we're ready

to call the community director and let the big-wigs deal with 'em. :)

If you do decide to return to school, good luck in your future

endeavors--teaching is an incredibly honorable and hopefully

fulfilling profession (my mom's a teacher). :)
