Guest guest
I think after you are exposed to trigger sounds your brain begins to pair the sounds with other things. With my ex wife I found myself in constant anxiety when she spoke whether or not she made a sylabance sound that triggered me. It's like a cat becoming accustomed to the sound of a can opener. There's a root cause that effects us and then a lot of psychological things arise and become glued to the problem. With me the the extreme brain scrambling reaction took time to develop. The first few times I hear someone make trigger sounds doesn't effect me. I hear people a lot that have a lot of syllabance in their speech and they don't bother me, but I think that if I was around them long enough I'd be in Hell. > > I h ave a question about symptoms. Guest guest
Additionally, I think IF a solution is found we would still have a large uphill battle ahead of us to resolve all the other baggage our brain has taken on. > > > > I h ave a question about symptoms. Guest guest
It depends on the amount of exposure to the noises but very most of the time on edge or anxious. I really feel like I have ADD sometimes.andra To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Wednesday, December 3, 2008 11:02:45 PMSubject: have a question I h ave a question about symptoms. Guest guest
Personally yes I am on edge. If I am in an exam and someone clicks their pen just a little, then fat chance of me being able to concentrate properly for the next hour even if they stop clicking after a minute, I wait for the sound and can feel it coming even if it doesn't Subject: have a questionTo: Soundsensitivity Received: Thursday, 4 December, 2008, 1:02 AM I h ave a question about symptoms. Guest guest
Sometimes, the sounds catch me off guard and I react after they start--often, this is the worst feeling, being caught off guard. But more often, I'm constantly alert and watching for possible offenders. Some people eating loudly? Sit somewhere else. Gum chomper? Cross the hall and walk as far away from them as possible. Name the noise, and I'm constantly watching for it. I notice when people reach into their purses and pray they're not going for gum or a mint. I think after a while it's hard not to be hypervigilant; you just want to protect yourself from the sounds, but in doing so you only notice more of them. > > I h ave a question about symptoms. Guest guest
For me, it's both. For my worst trigger sound I'm always on edge. But in other cases I can be completely relaxed and out of the blue... BAM that sound and I go through the roof!! > > I h ave a question about symptoms. Guest guest
If I'm talking to my folks, I can time a loud sniff to block out their sibilance pretty accurately, so it doesn't bug me much. Otherwise, no, I never expect it or anticipate it, and that probably is part of the problem. I'm pretty much okay with my occasionally sibilant boyfriend, because the problem IS occasional, and if it gets too bad, I can ask him to speak with a lisp. Then he'll say " Oh, thorry, I didn't mean to hurt your earth. Okay, tho like I was thaying... " = M-F. ----- Original Message ----- >I h ave a question about symptoms.
