RE: I GAVE THE WRONG CHILD SYNTHROID!

I did something similar a few years ago. We left in the early morning for a busy day. I didn't take my med or give Josiah his thyroid med. We ran by the house, quickly, in-route to the next activity, I had his med in my hand....the phone rang and something else happened all at once. I swallowed the pill in my hand (thinking it was mine) in my confusion and desire to hurry. I immediately knew what I had done. I was glad that "I" was the one with the wrong medicine. I felt weird for about 36 hours....kind of jittery and wanted out of my skin. I wondered about him taking it....but finally put it out of my mind because he's been taking it for years and his thyroid numbers are stable.

That was unusual for me. I usually take it in to him with a glass of water when I wake him up so it's in his stomach alone for around 30 min to an hour.

I know you are wondering HOW DO YOU DO THAT? The answer is …I don’t know…..

I went to get Sydnie’s synthroid and walked through the living room…at the same time their daddy had come in from his other job….Sydnie was talking to him and I was in the middle of doing Gosh knows what and literally popped it in Saylors mouth…..she finally said HEY MOM I TOOK SYDS MEDICINE AND LIKED IT CAUSE IM GOING TO TAKE IT WHEN I GET BIG! I looked at her and thought what is she TALKING ABOUT….(she likes to talk)…and suddenly I was like OH MY GOSHHHHHHHHHHHH So I stood there….think think thinkkkkkkkkkkkk ….i traced my steps and realized she was sitting in the recliner and Sydnie was sitting on the couch…they were watching Shrek the Halls.

I called a friend aka Saylors teacher cause I thought she took synthroid….no…she laughed and said Im sure she’s fine…WHATTTTTTT….so then I started to call the pharmacist….almost 9pm by now….but I was going to find someone NOW……called POISON CONTROL!!! They assured me it has to build in your system and not to beat myself up about it…WHATTTT??? IM A TERRIBLE MOTHER!!!

So anyway after all was calm…I was able to look at myself and say WHAT AN IDIOT!!! Nevermind I tell myself that every day!

I had the exact same thoughts. This motherhood business is not easy and we all make mistakes but that doesn't make us idiots! Give yourself a break. :-)

I accidently took two thyroid meds. I couldn't remember if I had taken the first dose. I didn't think it would be a big deal but I was so wired the entire day. My heart felt like it was going to beat right out of my chest. I'm an idiot toooooo!

Angie…..I take Armour thyroid, and Danny takes

Levothroid…I give him his in the morning when I take mine,,,then he goes

back to sleep for awhile since he can’t eat for an hour afterwards. One

morning, I was really sleepy, and I gave him his, then realized that I had

given him mine, too!! I freaked out….called poison control, called the

doc (I have known him for a long time, and he laughed at me because I was so

embarrassed…) Poison control said that a one time deal like that

wouldn’t hurt him..but I remembered that you are not supposed to

give thyroid meds within a few hours of taking calcium or vitamins

because the vitamins bind with thy thyroid med, making it(thyroid med) less

effective, so I went ahead and gave him his nutrivene D and a big glass

of milk right away (made me feel better anyway..

And I had no clue how I did it either…pretty scary.
