Good for you for talking with him! I have not tried that particular

med but for me Paxil didn't work for 4S either. It helped with

everything else though.

You said this: " He thinks it's a matter of " obsession " with those

sounds... I guess I couldn't get it through to him that the obsession

is secondary to (and a result of) the way they make me feel. "

This is so true! As you know, I have OCD also and yes, it feels like

we are obsessed with sounds but the thing is, can they explain how

practically overnight I " hated " those sounds. Plus, my OCD tendencies

(checking things etc...) didn't start until 7 or 8 years after my 4S

did. Plus, they can't explain why OCD meds don't seem to work for

this. It doesn't make sense to me that this would be completely OCD.

Now, the two may be related to each other since many of us do seem to

have OCD tendencies. I dunno. But, I hope that with all the things

we keep trying, including this new med you may try, we will find

something that works. So, good luck with this and lets keep our

fingers crossed!!

Hi Cherrydoom,Yours posts are fun to read, (also informative). I'm beginning to think a lot more about OCD in relation to myself. I'm sure I'll end up finding plenty of evidence of OCD in my own behaviours.I just don't have that really classic symptom of frequent checking. In fact I'm almost the opposite -I have to remind myself to check things, (typos in emails, are the doors locked? is the stove off?) - "Did I just burn another saucepan" Doh!Ironically, I do relate to the 'paralyzing fear of making mistakes'. But obviously not in relation to saucepans. :-)All this stuff is so weird. Even if a study can't cure us, wouldn't it be a huge step forward if they could produce a little notepad with a checklist of symptoms for 4s, and all we had to do was tick the boxes. That gum chewing psychologist of yours, Ouch. ...because I figured, what the heck? May as well. I told my psychologist about it this summer, and she was confused. She'd never heard of it before. Snapping her gum, she tilted her head to the side and said, "I guess it must bother you that I'm chewing gum, huh?" I smiled and nodded silently. Her conclusion was that it was OCD.Now, after having been on Celexa (20 mg) for four months, with fantastic success in the areas of my anxiety, depression, and PTSD (but no progress in 4s, of course) I decided to tell the man with the pills... my psychiatrist. He seemed genuinely interested in it. Asked questions, probed, really seemed to consider it. Then he pulled out a little notepad with a checklist for symptoms of OCD and had me fill it out. 4 out of 5 symptoms fit me. I've accepted the fact that I have my mother's OCD tendencies... frequent checking, the need to be reassured, paralyzing fear of making mistakes, tendency to replay failures over and over in my head, and the odd need to "feel" symmetrical... (If one hand gets cold/wet, the other has to... if one arm touches a strange texture, the other has to...)But it doesn't feel like that has anything to do with the 4s. Unfortunately, I couldn't adequately express the difference to him. He thinks it's a matter of "obsession" with those sounds... I guess I couldn't get it through to him that the obsession is secondary to (and a result of) the way they make me feel.Anyway, he suggested getting on "Luvox", a med similar to what I'm on but better for OCD. So I was curious, anybody have any success with this or other OCD medications? I know that the general consensus is that they do not help... but I'd be interested to read about your personal experiences with them and to get your opinions. Thanks. :)
